Fine Line Cafe?

I have not heard the fine line cafe concert/aftershow, but have heard it is jazzy! This sounds like an unusual performance by Prince...what do other people think of it?

Pochacco

It is one of my favorites. Its very laid back and jazzy and pretty much entirely instrumental, other than Housequake.
Prince just sings " If you cant rock steady, shut up already" the crowd Freaks out!!!

There is in my opinion one of the very best renditions of "Just my imagination" where Prince does THE most amazing guitar solo that just leaves me breathless.

The quality of the recording isnt perfect but still worth getting.

Much love yes Pochacco

"Jazzy" it certainly was.

According to Days Of Wild, Prince and his line up consisting of Sheila E, Levi Seacer Jr. , Matt Fink, Atlanta Bliss and Eric Leeds performed an unanounced set at The fine Line, a Minneapolis night club, billed as "The Fine Liners".

"Prince's band concentrated on Jazz-infused rock and funk instrumentals. Following a 15-minute instrumental jam, which functioned as a warm-up for the musicians, they played a lengthy version of the Madhouse track 'Eleven'. then they launched into an uptempo instrumental jam, before returning to 'Eleven' for a minute. They proceeded with Jimi Hendrix's instrumental 'Villanova Junction' (a track simply listed as "Instrumental Solo" on 'Woodstock' 1970, the album from the 1969 Woodstock festival) and an instrumental take on The Temptations' 'Just My Imagination', followed by another instrumental jam. An eight-minute version of Miles Davis' 'Freddie Freeloader' (from 'Kind Of Blue', 1959) was next. an instrumental version of 'Jack U Off' gave Sheila E. room for a a drum solo. Next followed a nine-minute instrumental version of 'Chain Of fools', a 1967 hit for Aretha Franklin (from 'Lady Soul', 1968), which incorporated portions from James Brown's 'Cold Sweat' and 'It's gonna Be A Beautiful Night'.
The evening closed with a mostly instrumental take on 'Housequake', featuring a chant by Prince, "If you can't rock steady, shut up, already!".
