Madhouse 16 & 8

I just recently got my hands on a copy of Madhouse 8 & 16. I don't really have the patience to wade through them to find something that really sticks. So before I place them in my Prince archives under the unlistenable section...are there any standout tracks on these two that I should give a 1st and then 2nd listen?

I don't know, I have never had a chance to listen. but if you ever want to sell, please org note me. I want a copy myself and too scared to buy off of ebay for fear of getting a fake.

The Madhouse albums are an aquired taste. You kinda have to play them straight through a couple of times to appreciate each and every song.

If you don't have the patience, 6 is a standout.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I'm pretty much in the same boat.

but I must say I do love these laid back jazzy jams
news, c-note etc
I'd love to get my hands on the madhouse stuff, oh and karma sutra

nod me too!

I love the laid back jazzy sound. I really like NEWS and yes even Karma sutra.
It is nice background music to play. I would love to have music piped in my house with each room having it's own speaker and play soft jazz music like they do in department stores.

I know I'm weird. razz

You should listen to 3 and 8 on the 8 album. They are both pretty long, but really good.

I find both excellent albums, 8 better than 16 though. They reaaly bring me back to that '87 feel, sott, black album. It was also arguably the best opening act he ever had (sott tour)... But even if you don't dig the jams... you might enjoy the "madhouse cover girl"... be sure to get the vinyl version then, that is... the small booklet sucks! wink

Hey! How did you find the Madhouse albums anyway? I was looking for the first one for a long time now. Is it available on cd? I still have the 12' inch single of 7 in my old stereo. Please tell me where you or I can find this?
Peace and be wild!

See this is what I mean.

Are you saying that Madhouse albums were never legitimately released on CD?
Because I almost bidded on a CD on amazon a while back but chickened out because the seller didn't mention anything about artwork.

Both have been officially released on CD, but there are plenty of fakes sold on eBay.

The Known Pirate / Fake collectibles list is a sticky in the Prince Collectibles area forum on Housequake.com and provides some useful guidance.

These took me awhile to get into...but they have turned into one of my favorite Prince side projects. 8 is better than 16 but 16 is still really good.

To start off...listen to 6 and 7 on 8...they are the most accessible. 6 was a minor hit back in 87. If you can find the extended version "End of The World Mix" out there...get it...that thing rocks.

As for 16...10 and 13 are the stand out tracks imo. The thing I love about 16 are the Godfather segues inbetween the songs...perfectly match the mood of the music imo.

But give both albums more of a chance...and listen to them all the way through a few times. They are worth the effort.

From 8, I like One, Five, Six, and especially Eight.
From 16, Eleven, Thirteen, and I freaking love Fourteen and Fifteen. They're beautiful. They would fit well on Sign o' The Times

Sorry...You don't have time to listen to two Cds that run at about 30 minutes a piece? Your loss! The Madhouse albums are RIPPIN'!

Snap

all b-sides are worth locating too
i'm a huge fan of the song "8"
but "6" (end of the world 12" remix) is probably the best of 'em all

madhouse is a great band project, much better than the n.e.w.s. project and other jazz style projects. i've ever loved the song 12.
all is full of love
