The Best Prince Album of 2000-Present?

My vote is The Love Below.

It is him going back to his early 80's roots with the synthesizers and what not.

I only have a burned copy so I haven't seen the album cover--is he naked or doing any cool poses? Well either way, he sounds great.

The Love Below was Prince's return to form. Why can't he make em all like that?

Do it again, Prince!

I think the next won should be Purple Rain 2 or The Love Below 2. Just my twocents

the Love Below is a good album with some great tracks, but gets extremely broing extremely quickly. though it is the more commercial/pop half of the set, it pales in comparrison to Speakerboxx, which is the more enjoyable CD of the two.

Funny thing is, Prince could have made The Love Below exactly the way it is, and fans/critics would have only said it was a decent Prince album at best.

Prince seems to be held to a higher standard by people, so when Andre 3000 or Timbaland or whoever, manages to even get close to the MPLS sound their work is met with all sorts of good talk.

that is because Prince has produced actual brilliant music with that sound, not just good music. if the bar is set too high, he has no one to complain to because he set the bar himself with his own brilliance.

So, Andre 3000 deserves applaud for making a good album with alot of Prince influence, that isn't easy to do. but Prince has shown the ability to make great music, so he is judged in comparrison with his own ability to create that music, unlike others, who are merely imitating. I don't see anything wrong with that, or that it is somehow unfair to Prince. I am sure Prince would rather have a history of brilliance and self created high standards to be judged against rather than just have always been pretty good so the expectations aren't so great.

the perfect analogy is basketball. a bench player can score 20 points in a game and be applauded for having a great game, but if Kobe Bryant only scores 20, it isn't. that is because the result isn't absolute, and just as Kobe has proven that his ability far exceeds 20 points for a game, Prince has written Purple Rain and When Doves Cry, so Roses would only be a good Prince song, but it is a great Andre 3000 song.

eek WTF? Prince didn't make The Love Below?

Could've fooled me.

Well anyway, Prince at least sort of returned to form this last year with Future Sex/Love Sounds. My Love is superb! SexyBack is ok, but it is too much like his track Silicon from The Chocolate Invasion.

In any event--Go Prince!

To be honest,

Prince hasn't released any album in this century that really did impress me, or that i really enjoyed listening to in the whole.

The rainbow children is very overrated by Prince fans: its a useless mix of halfbaken jazzrock, creepy, brainswashed lyrics and a very annoying deep voice trying to tell a story that is going nowhere, a 3 out of 10.

Musicology is a little step forward, to offer an overal enjoyable album, but in terms of songwriting and production its still an mediocre album, 6,5 out of 10

3121 is not much better then musicology, Prince doesn't seem to know what he wants: following his muse, or pleasing the mainstream public, the endresult is halfbaken, dated, only interesting for Prince fans trying to defend their 'hero', a 6 out of 10.

That's actually one half of the double album "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" by Hip-Hop legends, Outkast.

I really hope the creator of this topic was being funny, because that was funny. lol

But to answer the question.....wait, does "One Night Alone" count? hmmm

Don't see why not wink I love 'One Nite Alone', is one of my 'recent' favourites, along with 'The Rainbow Children'. I can understand why some may not like it at first, especially if you bought it expecting some pop hits, but you can not rule out the musician-ship, at the very least.
