7 nights at a 20000 seater arena...he will sell 140000 tickets no problem at that price....he was THEE biggest music star of the 80s...some people seem to forget this..millions of people have bought his records in this country ...he is now a music legend , he doesnt need hits to sell out concerts...his last album sold around 100000 copies in the uk without any hits or real promotion so it will sell out quickly i think..the first 7 nights anyway...
.
.if he is playing 21 nights at the same place then he will have problems trying to sell that amount of tickets but so would most big acts....so i dont know what his plans are...it might be that he will be playing smaller gigs as well...

He was already a "legend" in 1995, with his only UK number one single just under his belt and he couldn't sell out a 10,000 seater.

When he played Wembley Stadium in 93, he struggled to sell out at 72,000.

Hopefully the price, and the fact that the Europeans will be coming too will help, but 150,000, in one city? I think that is pushing it. I hope I'm wrong.

.
.
but you are forgetting one thing...the reason he was struggling to sell out then was overkill...he toured all the time back then..nude tour...diamonds and pearls tour...act1 and 11 tour ...gold experience tour..overkill...
.
.
there will be demand because its over 10 years since he played big shows in the uk..and dont forget the rest of europe ....those dutch fans are mental.... i think ...if its promoted properly...you will be surprized just how quickly it sells out....

This is great news - now, we need to get Prince into some great small venues. Anybody with connections, get him into RONNIE SCOTTS Jazz Club in Soho?

Prince To Rule London With Summer Dates
Prince
May 08, 2007, 10:30 AM ET

Lars Brandle, London
Prince has committed to a blockbuster, 21-date stretch performing in London this summer. The Earth Tour will kick off Aug. 1 with seven dates at the new 17,000-plus capacity venue O2 Arena, which will open its doors for the first time the previous month.

Continuing with the concept tested with his 2004 U.S. Musicology tour, a free copy of the artist's forthcoming album will be distributed with each ticket purchased. Details were not revealed about that project; a spokesperson for Universal in North America, which released Prince's most recent album, "3121," says it does not have a new album from the artist on its schedule.

Tickets will be capped at £31.21 ($62.24), with booking, CD postage and packaging fees bringing the total to £37.21 ($74.21). In the context of U.K. ticket prices for superstars, the fee for Prince's performances represents excellent value. In comparison, the best seats for Barbra Streisand's upcoming British shows cost £600.

The legendary artist look part in a press gathering in central London today (May 8) to unveil the three-week stint, which will be his only European dates this year.

"Last time I was here, a lot of people didn't get to see me, so we're trying to make it affordable," he explained. "That's why we're doing an extended stay. I got used to this while working in Las Vegas. I also have a wide fanbase, which come to multiple shows all the time."

During his stretch at the 3121 venue in Las Vegas, the artist and his band performed a slew of unusual material, including a version of Beatles classic "The Long And Winding Road," Amy Winehouse tracks and "a lot of jazz."

Gig-goers in London should expect the unexpected, he declared today. "Because there's going to be so many nights here, we're going to change the show every night. We've learned about 150 songs, and it'll be a lot of fun." Prince did not address the claim in a press release that he would be "performing his greatest hits for the very last time," a statement that seems to be whispered every time he returns to the road.

When asked if this was the last time he would play London, he admitted, "for a while. Which is another reason why we are staying so long." When pressed, he added, "We just need to take some time off to study and travel." And what is he studying? "The Bible."

A spokesperson said "eclectic and surprising supports from around the world" would open for the star. "I hope that [Winehouse] is going to show up," Prince said. "I'm a big fan."

Prince's hugely successful Musicology tour was built on similar principles -- ticket prices were kept low, and the "Musicology" CD came free with purchase. The tour drew nearly 1.5 million people, more than any tour on the road that year, and generated $90.2 million in gross ticket sales, ranking second only to Madonna on the year-end Billboard Boxscore chart.

The inclusion of the CD for the London dates was down to "direct marketing," Prince said today, adding "I don't have to be in the speculation business. The record industry is going through tumultuous times at the moments."

Interesting. The album won't debut at the shows then. Looks like a world wide release date. Also, could this pricing structure allow it to be eligible for UK charts?

It's 21 shows (i have the press release in my hands) - opening with the 7 shows at the o2 arena. The other 14 have yet to be announced.

"[Tickets] will include a copy of Prince's brand new CD, the follow up to the critically acclaimed 3121."
biggrin

i still think it's 7 shows at the O2 and perhaps a few aftershows
but not 21 shows in all.that's a 2 week span. i doubt he'll play another 14 shows in the
remaining week, lol.

He IS playing 21 nights in London, they will not necessarily be consecutive. The venues have not been selected for the remaining 14 shows. I was told this last week at 3121, so I guess the rumors were true. Now for important matters, how do I renew my passport? lol

He and Shelby sang Love is a Losing Game at the last aftershow and Musicology had the highest attendance of any tour in 2004, including Madonna's. He would have been top grossing but only charged $75 per ticket while Madge charged as much as $400 for the best seats that year.

So is he actually playing in the main arena? I had noted how someone earlier said about a little club that might have been a possibility within the complex.

He ripped it up in London last time he was here... One Night Alone was cool...

Now I need to work my magic to get into the aftershow gigs...

I think this will sell out quickly, I'll be online and next to the speed dial!

The other question is - what are they doing to stop touts buying up a whole load and selling them for inflated prices?

Cos it's in England! biggrin
and England deserves it.

'City' airport is kind of a European 'hub' as it's next to Canary Wharf, for business, so is easy to get to from most European destinations. (slightly off topic)

Yeah, I was wondering about the thieving bastard touts too. I'm guessing that because the tickets are being sent out 5-days or so before the gig, that it may be a little more difficult for ebayers and stuff. Don't know though, they fuck everyone up. Maybe they will limit the amount you can buy?

I'm still trying to find confirmation on the new album...there are way too many threads going on these London shows right now, but I see no confirmation anywhere so far that it's a new album they're giving away at these shows, not 3121. Can anyone confirm?

He went up to MPLS to record new material several times during the Vegas gigs and what is NOT clear about "Ticket Price Includes Prince's NEW CD" as stated on 3121.com???
