Mysterious Prince DVD appears in UK stores!

I went into HMV today, and as always headed straight for the Prince CDs and DVDs. In the DVD section, I was expecting to see the standard Purple Rain, UTCM, Diamonds & Pearls, Sign O The Times discs.

To my amazement, there was a new DVD in the rack I'd never seen before. The price sticker said £7 only, and it looked to good to be true. It is merely called 'PRINCE'. It looks cheaply done, like a fan did it (company called "Music Videos on DVD").

Well I bought it and it is everything it promised - just a MASSIVE collection of Prince's videos (much bigger and better value than any of the 'official' releases).

Prince DVD oddity I purchased today in London

The following videos are on it:

Kiss
Let's Pretend We're Married
Little Red Corvette
Alphabet Street
Money Don't Matter Tonight
Power Generation
Dirty Mind
Girls & Boys
Raspberry Beret (loved this one!, never seen it in full before)
Sexuality
Controversy
Never Take the Place of Your Man
Thieves in The Temple
Uptown
Automatic
Wanna be Your Lover
Glam Slam
Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad
You Got The Look
AnotherloverholeinyourHead
Gett Off
Cream
Diamonds and Pearls
1999
America

AMAZING VALUE for just £7 - UK fans I highly recommend a visit to your local HMV store in the next few days - this is a hot disc.

Wow, I'm watching the DVD right now, and there's even more videos on it than listed on the box. I Wish U Heaven is showing right now, and that's not even listed on the box.

It's all perfect quality too. Am I dreaming? I don't have to watch my favourite Prince videos on the net anymore, I can now see them on my big TV!

Watching all his videos in sequnce is quite dreamy actually, like you're floating on clouds through Prince's mind...esepcially this wish u heaven vid...

also, the box doesn't list the videos in right order, it seems to be going chronologically - started on Raspberry Beret, went through the "Around the world in a day" era and now i'm up to lovesexy era.....

most amazing dvd ...wow

Hey! What about us Americans? Prince hasn't had anything on sale over here. It is so hard to find any music besides the music which I gave to FYE. Oh, well. Life just sucks at times....or all the time when you are me. neutral

Full Partyman video just came on...okay, i can't find *ANY* trace of this DVD on the internet - not on amazon.co.uk or amazon.com...spooky...really.

Like I've found some sort of magical Prince DVD that's fallen into just my hands containing ALL his videos....this is so weird, it's too good to be true...!

so glad i did't splash out for that diamonds n pearls official one now.

Quality is NOT good at all shake

In 2007 I expect good picture and good sound and most of the videos looks like directly transferred from home VHS to DVD.

But then again it's just £7 shrug

Posted about several times but the mods keep deleting the threads since the DVD is clearly a bootleg creation that has slipped through the gaps into official stores. Most recently:

Im sorry but this cannot be a bootleg its being sold in HMV the biggest music retailer in the UK, if they were selling bootlegs they would face massive legal actions.

This DVD is cool because it has about 30 prince videos on it, all we need now is the symbol era vids on dvd and we are jammin

Hi

I purchased this DVD in HMV Mansfield, UK a week or so ago... yep it is kind of rough, and certainly transfered straight from video - there are even some sound bars visible on some of the promos (which is sure evidence).

Where this is from... god only knows, but if you don't have a large collection of promo's already... for £7 it's well worth a gamble.

There is a good selection of videos on there (29)... and the better quality ones seem to be the ones that have not had an official release on either the Purple Rain, Under The Cherry Moon, Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls and of course the Batman DVD's.

Complete List (pay no attention to the dvd package or menu)

Raspberry Beret
America
Girls & Boys
Mountains
Kiss
Anotherloverholenyohead
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
U Got The Look
Alphabet St.
I Wish U Heaven
Glam Slam
Partyman
New Power Generation
Thieves In The Temple
Gett Off
Cream
Insatiable
Diamonds & Pearls
Monet Dont Matter 2nite
I Wanna Be Your Lover
Uptown
Dirty Mind
Controversy
Sexuality
Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad
1999
Little Red Corvette
Let's Pretend We're Married
Automatic

So... It's up to you if you want to splash out

Hope this has been of some help to you all

Yep... it's about time we had an official DVD release with all the promo's on it!

Lots of pirate/bootleg releases find their way to legit retailers - have a look in the vinyl section and check out the 12" remix albums. All unofficial, as are the SOTT and Lovesexy picture discs and 3121 vinyl. Not to mention the horrendous Brazilian SOTT DVD and the recent Homecoming DVD out of Germany that was subsequently ordered to have all copies destroyed http://www.housequake.com...ost1135613
The retailers have no idea what is legit or not, they just pick items from their suppliers catalogues. It is rather astounding how many pirate/bootleg releases are finding their way into reputable retailers now, however until the legitimacy is questioned (as with The Homecoming DVD) these items carry on being sold as official merchandise.
The quality of this release is by no means great.
You can read more in my review at Housequake.

I picked it up today. Great stuff, excellent to have some of these vids on DVD, worth the price for "Automatic" and "Let's Pretend We're Married" vids alone!

I chanced upon this today and I have to say it's great.

Yeah, it's obviously transferred from video but for the £7.95 I paid for it instore, I don't mind. Especially given that there's a good number of rarities on there and to be honest, the picture quality is pretty decent considering.

feels like this is the 100 time I've seen this thread- or one about this. My understanding is that this wouldn't play on a DVD player in the States, correct?

Probably true if it's Region 2 PAL, but it doesn't say on the box at all. At best, it might be Region 0.

Although it's done unbelievably amateurishly (song selection doesn't seem to match to the song you've chosen on the menu and the chapters sometimes start either just before or just after the song's started) it's been pressed on a proper DVD, not a DVD-R.

This has to be an official releases (ie 'non bootleg') seeing as it is being sold at the most reputable cd dealership in the UK. Apparently it is approved by A.S.C.A.P / B.M.I / R.I.A.A. according to the artwork anyway.

This DVD is well worth buying, especially if you've never seen his older or rarer stuff. If the guy isn't gonna put this stuff out 'Officially', then what's an admirer 2 do??

Nah, it's not official.

The artwork is badly printed and is put together terribly with spelling errors and song titles shortened very clumsily. Also, if it were official, I'd be asking for my money back due to the picture quality of the collection.
But for the bootleg that it is, it's darn fine.

Just a note, I once purchased the pirate version of the Y Kant Tori Read CD from my local Virgin Megastore a few years ago and they had quite a few of them in. So these things really do slip through the net sometimes.

My guess is this is a boot...there are about three or four other DVDs that were released the same time as the Prince one, featuring 50 cent and others I can't remember at the moment.

it says Region 2 PAL on the amazon.uk site..... sad
Sounds like it wouldn't have been a bad import for the price. Still can't figure why it hasn't gotten pulled yet though?
