Favourite Remix

What's your favourite Prince Remix or Alternate Version (not separate B-side)?

I'm holding out on this one; I'm waiting to see if you guys can inspire me!

Can we decide on the word REMIX?
The Gett Off things I consider REWORKS rather than remix.

The remix that springs to mind is THE FUTURE and ELECTRIC CHAIR, as they gave the songs a new meaning.
Also, the sherm stick remix of Letitgo. It was the only time when someone remixing Prince got something good out of sampling Prince...

Here I gotta go silly on y'all...
Mountains and Kiss were extended version...
Not even Poplife of Paisley Park can be conseidered remixes in the true sense of the word. They are also extended versions rather than remixes.

The alternate takes on Come and Strange Relationship are indeed great...rather have the original Come, than that silly remixed, fucked up, R&B'd, released version

Gooey please help...
I'm struggling to get to grips with all these descriptions..Extended mixes, reworks. What would you consider remixes and I'll try and find one from you're list that suits...

Go silly on me?? Oh please dont hesitate 2 .. lol wink

yes yes extended they r but they can b quoted as remixes ... though hell they rnt really mixed, well mixed enough so that the back beat has an alternate flavor which outwardly re-identifies the tone of the song ... so yes u may now tattoo stupid across my 4head lol ... but i can still like them right ... even though they rnt true remixes (in your sense of the word) confuse wink ...

And yes ... the 7inch version of ‘Come’ is just ... BAHHH ... I dont think (of) ‘pre arranged r&b line up and overly staged musical background’ when it comes 2 sex & sexy songs (oh what would ya'll do without my crazy ways of wording things hehe) lol ... so 2 me the alternate version (which has the opposite) just illustrates the mood more adequately ... funky beats FUNKY BEATS biggrin

theres something about u babe ... it happens everytime ...

The "Space" remixes, for sure. They made that boring ass song pretty damn cool. "I Wish U Heaven" is pretty stellar in remix form, too.

Is it true that William Orbit (of Madonna fame) remixed "The Future", "Electric Chair", and "My Name Is Prince?"

he did the first two plus Batdance - the Batmix he co-produced with Mark Moore of S'express fame (well in Britain, they were big)

I heart Scandalous Sex Suite. May not meet everybody's remix criteria though. So, the "Come" remix which totally shits on the album version (the only really bad song on "Come" IMO, oh and Solo, oh and Orgasm )

Also, got a great remix of 4ever In My Life. 2 minutes 57 seconds of overdubbed beats and vibes that add to the song and take it in a new direction. It's all good!

I'd say Gett Off (housestyle) is a remix...Violet the Organ Grinder is a rework... wink

With that in mind, Gett Off (hosestyle) is my favorite "remix"

IstenSzek and the other's who just went ahead and voted for I Wish U Heaven pts 1,2,&3...Love to you! This version is one of my favorite Prince things ever. I've just recently gotten my turntable going again, and that was the 1st vinyl I put on...

I'm sure that Prince doesn't do his extended remixes like dance acts. I think that he records the full length versions first and then edits them down for album versions and singles. In almost every case, I prefer the extended version to the regular because you get more of the song and it doesn't fuck with the core part you're used to on the album.

I was just going through all my 12" yesterday to make transfers of them for a friend and all of those extended versions and remixes blow me away. There's not one in this batch of songs that I don't like:

Sexy Dancer/Let's Work/Little Red Corvette- dance mix/Let's Go Crazy/I Would Die 4 U/Raspberry Beret/Paisley Park/Pop Life/America/Kiss/Mountains/Anotherloverholenyohead/U Got the Look/Housequake/Hot Thing/Alphabet St./Glam Slam/I Wish U Heaven 1, 2, 3/ Batdance/Partyman/Scandalous Sex Suite/The Future/Electric Chair/Thieves in the Temple/Get Off.

Not to mention all the extended b-sides during that time. It sortof falls apart after that without consistent b-sides and remixes but during his glory days for singles from '82-'92- he really couldn't be beat. The Come singles and Beautiful Experience were good too.

That said, if I had to choose an all-time favorite remix it would have to be I Wish U Heaven parts 1, 2 and 3. That might be my favorite recorded Prince moment ever.

kinda makes you wonder why he stopped making Killer b's.i hated the CD singles remix culture that developed in the 90's.

I Wish U Heaven 12"

I know it's more of an extended version than a real remix
as such, but still, it feels like 2 remixes stuck on the
back of the original [slightly altered] composition.

The effect is mayte fine and the whole thing just works
perfectly.

"I got peace-sign sneakers, pleated slacks,
don't fuck with me, I'll slap yo...aaasss"

other cool 'remixes' include

The Good Life [absolutely fckng brilliant performance!]
Thieves In The Temple
LetitGo Sherm Stick Edit
Come On Remix [like Miles love Jazz tudutututututududu]
The Future/Electric Chair

The guitar on the extended "Paisley Park" and the funky
intro to "Raspberry Beret" are ultra cool as well.

I second that one! I never cared for the song till I heard the full version, its the SHIT!
