Vibrator is quite a shit album for consistency. All the songs on Purple Rain are good.

I should have put this in the other artist forum.

I should break the habit of puttin' my head in the guillotine, especially when theres no-one around with the brains to operate the lever.

TTD went independant long ago.
Prince only stomped his feet about being dependant. Didn't really have the nerve to go underground.

Now back in the main stream (if only 4 a short while longer) he's as preachy as ever.

OK 2 set the record straight. Purple rain is an unbeatable album, as far as I'm concerned. Vibrator is great, I wouldn't bother seriously comparing the 2.

But I must say TTD went very high in my oppinion, when I realised how far he went and how much he sacrificed when resisting the manipulations of the main-stream record industry. TTD came through with more action and commitment, and in comparison to prince a lot less noise (and facepaint).

Although I had to sympathise with prince for the name change and what have you, I know he didn't really make the break. He seemed 2 b of 2 minds, and in the end his petty self came out on top.
He still gets credit 4 his whining from some of his more deluded fans, whereas TTD doesn't seem 2 get any credit at all, and doesn't ask 4 it either.
On the contrary he seems 2 enjoy it 4 what it is, a spiritual enrichment.
All in all I lost some respect for Prince

Well I think its mis representation to say that Prince wasn't and still isn't all the way independent. No one in the music industry of Prince's stature would have or did for that matter what Prince did.

He did more than "whine" about the industry. He took himself out of the industry! For many years Starting with Emancipation and then well there is no end really. I mean Musicology with its ticket bundling was a brilliant move that smacked of what he learned when he didn't have majory label backing and STILL he didn't nor will he sign a traditional deal.

Prince is not only to be lauded for his future vision but for his remarakable business savy that really won't be respected until many years from now. I have to chuckle at how people are tripping on what Nas is saying about hip hop. When Prince told all of us this about a decade ago. I mean honestly most people around here didn't know how much juice Ray Charles had until they saw the movie Ray. Hell I bet most people around here just thought of him as a blind piano player.

Now on to TTD who let's be real went indie cause he had no choice and conversely has stayed indie cause he's had no choice. To me he is the least original of the Prince wannabee's out there. Now that much being said I still enjoy a good portion of this stuff and I really wish he were bigger on the scene because he can sing his ass off and has the balls to be adventureous and good!! Which is no small feat. Tension inside the sweetness is still one of my most favorite discs by any artist.

But to compare TTD who was NEVER anywhere near the orbit of consitent superstardom as Prince is just wrong. I mean you aren't going to see some national...International movement to see TTD play in clubs near you let alone Arena's all over the world.

So for me at least to say that TTD was the more committed indie artist than Prince just isn't the truth. Now if you want to say Ani De Franco is the more committed indie....Well I don't think anyone can reasonably argue that!! But before I say TTD is more indie I would have to see two things.

First he would have to be a successful indie like Prince was (even though at the time around here everyone was predicting his musical death!!) Secondly I would have to see how he really held up to the pressure of a major label really trying to make him their priority again.

As it stands even if he did get signed to a major I don't think any of them would be interested in restoring him to his "Hardline" days.
THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!!
