I heard that is the whole reason the band got Manic Monday. If they didn't date, how did the Bangles get the song? Was "Manic" a girl song? What's weird is that unlike a lot of P tracks that have others singing lead, you can't his vocals in the background-at least I can't.

I think he wanted to date her, but she didn't say yes.

But he still gave the song away anyway, just because he enjoys giving them away to people he feels should have them.

I've often wondered this myself, but I'm not completely sure.

from what I know, at the very least Prince was infatuated with Susannah and/or her band... he offered the Bangles a couple songs... "Manic Monday" was intended as a Vanity 6 song for the 2nd album (a version's afloat which sounds like a duet between Prince and Vanity) -- the Bangles took it and made it their own, featuring their very own arrangement, instrumentation, vocals, etc. iirc

What you peeps have already written is what I understand the story to be. He would show up at thier concerts un-announced and stuff and he tried pretty hard from what I understand. Just imagine their combined height would be ten feet.

Susannah's definitely beautiful. I saw her talk about Prince on VH1 when they were doing the 100 Greatest Songs of the 80's. While they did "When Doves Cry": #5, she said that she saw him in concert recently and "he is SO talented"... or somewhere along those lines.

If you listen to the Bangles version closely, you can still hear Brenda in the background. I don't think they really did much to it at all other than Susannah's vocal. I just listened to the original version yesterday.

When VH1 presented the Bangles in their famous program called:" Where are they now?", the girls of the group were saying Prince were contacting them just because he had a crush on Susannah. Susannah herself said ( I quote) " It was just an ackward long distance relationship"
They all seemed bitter talking about him and had negative feedback.

He met her on a flight I believe.
The Bangles story (from a Behind the Music episode, iirc) was that he had a big crush on her but nothing ever happened. His attention to her did push her into the "spotlight" though, which the others in the band didn't particularly like.

I remember a long time ago when Joan Rivers guest hosted the Tonight Show and the Bangles were on. During the interview she played this "game" with them: whoever did what action she mentioned had to raise their hand. When she asked the question "which one of you dated Prince?" Susannah raised her hand and the other band members pointed to her. I figured that meant that they dated.

After delivering that big hit for them do you honestly believe he didn't get to tap that ass???
