Before Housequake went and lost their mind, I saw a report done in Australia about how his concert was a great success and I realized I never really thought about P being wildly popular outside the US, hence this thread

The last time P came here was in 2003 and if i recall correctly his first concert in Melbourne sold out within minutes. I guess that suggests he is pretty popular down under. Everyone i meet knows who he is, doesn't mean they like him however...

The Netherlands
The United Kingdom

i would say holland...his concerts sell out faster there than any other country..he was popular in the uk up until the mid nineties but hasnt really been in the spotlight since then much...the odd tv appearance....he hasnt had a hit song here in the uk since betha by golly wow and the holy river made the top 20 ten years ago....his last two albums have done ok here though selling around 100,000 copies each....

Prince isn't that popular in the Uk anymore. Times were that any Prince release would instantly hit the No.1 spot in the charts (album - especially since Purple Rain) and his singles would go top 20. Not any more. Can't remember the last No.1 album... the last top ten single was Gold, I think.

He may still have an underground Uk fanbase, but his hold over the music buying public the United States of Kingdom has definitely waned.

Prince was very big in the UK and was a big concert seller. I reckon he'd still sell loads of concert tickets in the UK.

I don't think he would sell that many tickets in the UK now. The last show was at the Hammersmith Apollo, only a couple of thousand seats. If he went 'on tour' in the UK he would struggle to play more than one date at any of the larger venues around the country. Since the heyday of the Nude Tour, when he did something silly like 18 nights in a row at Wembley, he's always had problems putting bums on seats in the UK.

I would think here, as GD folks tend to not be as interested in Prince.

He has a lot of fans/people in Western Canada that just adore him, but the poor folks out this way hardly hear anything about him.....there is very little promotion...and only his older "hits" get radio play. I think if he played a venue in Vancouver BC the people out there would be thrilled!

Japan…based on the success of musicology and black sweat singles. Tokyo definitely seems to likes him. Song of the Heart has been on the Tokyo 100 singles chart for the past two months. It peaked at #18.

Since Nude the larger arena concerts I have been to were not sold out. In fact, for one I traded a crappy seat at the back for a crappy seat in the front row on the side. The Gold Experience tour saw parts of arenas get curtained off for lack of sales. If he came and played once in Wembley, once in Sheffield, once in Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and, possibly, Cardiff, he might get the majority of his tickets sold for each gig. But, as I said before, the notion of Prince filling Wembley Arena for a five or six night run is something consigned to history... in my opinion. I would dearly love to be proved wrong, I just don't think it's going to happen.

He's not so pop here in Chile.
The kids don't know who he is.

Society here is pretty homophobic, and prince just ruffles 2 many feathers.

Crowd wise, three shows at the Apollo equals on night at Wembley Arena, and Prince sold those three shows out in an instant, at £65 a ticket.

If he were to play the arenas at a sensible price, with a bit of promotion, he would fill an tour of the major cities easy.

I am not sure where he is the most popular, but he sure is not popular over here, which is a shame. I´ve even met ppl about my age (in their 20´s), who had no idea who he was.
