1999- The New Master?

I own 99% of Prince's properly released catalog but for some reason I have been resistive to picking up "1999-The New Master". Is my apprehension warranted? Is it that bad? Is there anything salvageable about it? I know I will pick it up someday but give me a reason to.

Besides, who doesn't love Rosario Dawson? Any Rosario/Prince pictures to be posted?

The first time I played it, I liked it...or at least I liked the how he pumped up the bass. After listening to it a few times tho, I decided I preferred the original.

i don't like it. probably the one thing i listen to least out of all the
prince stuff in my collection.

but that might be because i've never liked the song 1999 anyway. it's an
interesting oddity to have but as far as good production goes, the first
version (however much i dislike it) is still lightyears better than that
new one.

there are so many things wrong with the new version. Rosie just screams,
as usual and gets on my tits. larry tries his best but it simply too out
of place on this to make it sounds convincing or even plausible.

don't even get me started on jungle and rap versions of this song. what
the hell was prince thinking? the a capella version is just silly.

I have it and I like it. It's cool hearing Prince, The Revolution, and The N.P.G. on it. Prince was trying to make a statement. It's cool to hear the different mixes. I think you should go get it.

Thanks. Usually his experiments and mistakes are at least interesting from some musical idea. I love "The War" and weren't they recorded close together?

'The War' is in a diffferent league. Far better.

If you're a completist, you'll end up getting it anyway. But it's shit.

Let me put it this way:

Many years ago, while carrying some CDs from my car to my house, a few slipped out and fell to the ground.

1999: The New Master, being in a cardboard sleeve, slid out and bounced around on the driveway - causing MANY gouges and scratches.

Now - normally this would bother me, especially within my Prince collection. I'd usually go out the next day and get another one. This time, I really didn't even flinch or anything ... it was very much a case of "whatever".

If they told me that it was going to be worth money some day, and supplies were limited, I still wouldn't buy it again.

That would be interesting. Just think this was even considered for the Roadhouse Garden project by Prince and The Revolution. Too bad that project has not saw the full light of day.
