Apart from that Kamasutra thing I think Come is my least favourite album. I just find tracks like Orgasm completly irritating. I do however really like Papa and Loose.

people should really get off that. those songs were recorded along
with the ones on the gold experience and they shifted from one to
the other album regularly before ending up on their final releases

i never understood why people claimed to love the stuff on gold and
then they hate the come album, which is basically the same sessions

Is this one of those albums where you either like it or hate it?

I've been considering it myself. I saw it at FYE for $8.99, so it's a def. possibility next time I go there.

I've heard any diff. things, but people here seem divided on whether or not it's any good. I've heard a few tracks on 'The Beautiful Experience' and combined with what I already know about TGE, it's some intersting stuff.
My fav. track that I heard was 'Race'. Papa was very diff, a little depressing, but well-written. Loose I guess was okay, I didnt really get it, but I only hear it once. Come [the song] was new and diff from anything I'd heard up to this point.

i keep saying it all the time, but with a better final track, even
something like Strays of the World or Calhoun Sq, this album would
be much more appreciated.

orgasm is indeed kinda irritating and it doesn't finish the album
properly. you feel like you're cheated out of an end. with a more
suited final track and perhaps a shorter intro than the 10 minute
version of Come, the album would feel more consistent.

although it contains some of his best ever material imo, i really
can see why it's hard to get into for people.

the album version of this song is majorly different from that version on
The Beautiful Experience. it's a slow burning soul/funk groove that goes
on for 10 minutes with prince making oral sex noises etc etc.

it's also got some of the most exquisite horns on any prince song ever.

Yeah, I'm sure it is different. The version of Shh was way diff. than TGE, but it was interesting hearing it in its earlier stages of production.

I found myself intrigued by the song cuz I was expecting it to build up and it didnt... but I understand where he was going with it.

When I hear the album versions of some songs compared to the earlier versions, I tend to favor the album versions (sure, you could argue that im more familiar with the album versions). TMBGITW, I've heard 2 versions of, and I still favor TGE becuz it just works better with the album as a whole.

I'm sure the longer version of Come works better with the album... I have a lot of faith in our musical genius.

Come was not a contractual obligation - it was a true album. It was meant to be released simultaneously with The Gold Experience, but WB didn't go for that.

It's a great album IMO - Space, Race, Letitgo, and Loose! are great songs. It's cool to see early tracklistings of the album, because a lot were on TGE and vice versa.

For $8.99 I don't see why you're hesitating. It's a great album (a few songs are duds, such as Solo and Papa). This will be out of print, so I would pick it up.

The real standout track for me is Space - it's so good! Loose! was a big club track back in the day too - very techno.

lol...

With what I know now, I know where you're going... but the fact is I'm at college and the FYE is 3+ hours away... Now that I have enough cash for one Prince album, I'll pick it up when the semester's over.

Thanx for the input, though. I look 4ward to the day I get it... a month from now...

really, with 90% of his official releases you simply can't go wrong.

there's always a lot to enjoy in his albums, even if they happen to
contain a few songs you don't like as much.

especially his 80's output up to lovesexy is flawless imo. you just
can't go wrong getting any one of those albums.

3 hours away! Now I understand. I'd call ahead to make sure they hold it for you.

My fear about his less successful albums is that once they're gone, they're gone. I don't think they'll be released again - so for 8.99 that's a steal.

I picked up an extra The Rainbow Children, and I take great care of my Prince CDs because I know they're gonna be hard to find later.

That label is so tired and ultimately baseless. I'm starting to think some people listen to the hype and believe the games that Prince was playing with WB at the time rather just letting the music speak for itself.

Prince obviously LOVED the tracks that make up Come enough to base an entire multimedia musical experience around them at the time - Glam Slam Ulysses, and feature them in a made for TV special - The Beautiful Experience. They were recorded during the same sessesions that spawned The Gold Experience and many of the tracks floated back and forth between various album tracklists.

Personally, I think Come is an incredibly seductive album (meaning it's a grower) and don't really have a complaint about any of the tracks.

I've heard that quite a few times about this album. Even though I've heard about 4-5 tracks of it already (earlier productions, thu), a lot of mystery lays in it, but I want to save the rest for when I finally get it.

At the same time, people have also said how they loved TGE from first listen. That was a "grower" for me and a lot of people don't believe me when I say it. After giving its tracks a few listens this weekend, I'll shelve it for a week or so as to not wear it out. The opposite could be true about "Come" becuz I'm already slightly familiar with the sound due to TGE... but there's no telling what lays ahead.

I saw the "Endorphinmachine" portion of that Glam Slam Ulysses on youtube and it was an interesting take... Prince comparing the song to the sirens in the Odysessey, after it grew on me with a few listens, I understand why.

Just a quickie here. I noticed on another thread you don't own an ipod. Do you use ebay though? Just that you've mentioned many times on many threads about you being a recent fan and not having much Prince stuff and about money matters...U can buy most Prince cd's on ebay for little more than a couple of dollars, i've seen several go for 99cents and if you bought 4 or 5 from one seller you can sometimes get maybe 5 Prince cd's and postage included for a little over 10 bucks. Just a friendly suggestion that's all. biggrin

I was personally a bit disappointed in Come when it was originally released, I found it a rather humourless release from Prince lacking any real punch. Then I got the NPG Exodus album and it seemed like Prince put more fun and effort into that.

Saying that, there are several tracks that grow on you, but over-all the album could have done with just one or 2 extra tracks like IstenSzek says. Take away the 'non-song' Orgasm, it is a rather short album.

I think Come helped kill his career albums wise in U.K. It entered at number one as his albums tended to do back then, based on his name and fan base. But I think the lifelessness of it as a contemporary album alienated a good chunk of what was left of his audience here who'd bought it.

He's never enjoyed a number 1 album since here. I do have a friend who was a huge Prince fan and basically said that's it after Come, the guy should R.I.P like the album suggests.

Look at Gold, entered I think at around number 10 and then disappeared soon after. It was such a shame but I do always think of Come as a watershed album over here and one he's never really recovered from album wise.

As for me personally, it ranks as close to the bottom as it can get without stamping all over C&D, Rainbow Children etc..

It got a great review in EW when it came out. shrug I like it. It suffers like most Prince albums from the 90s on--about five killer songs and then some filler. Too bad he can't blame it on WB anymore.
