That really says it all. I knew the placement in the movie basically drew the picture of what the song's about. that part right there is probably why Billy says "the Kid is in rare form tonite"... because the music only really makes sense to him. It's crazy, though... I love the song because it seems very advanced in the instrumental portion, which seems to paint its own picture. But it just wasn't good for "the business". Thanx 4 clearing that up. This really puts the song into perspective 4 me. Haha, now I wish I brought PR with me, or I'd listen 2 it right now. [Edited 4/10/07 9:02am] ur welcome. | |

It's quite the remarkable song. I only wish that I could have heard the full version (supposedly 14 minutes long). I don't really care much for figuring how what it means. All I can get from it comes from its placement in the movie. But the instrumentals from 2:19 to 3:31 speaks louder than the words do. I feel like it tells its own story, but I've yet to figure out what it is. It's worth giving a few more listens just so I can feel the music and let something come to mind. As of yet, Prince has yet to establish a personal connection with me thru the PR album the way he has thru Musicology & TGE. It's just a collection of well sequenced music that tells the tale of his "coming of age". His heart is in it, but there's no personal connection that I see yet. For a while I thought Starfish was an anal reference, and the coffee referred to Prince's and/or the woman's skin tone.
That give a whole new meaning to the next line "maple syrup and jam" - tossed salad. What made me think of this was the Limp Bizkit CD "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog-flavored Water". Computer Blue is much easier. He's an emotionally-broken machine, and he's "blue" (lonely). |
