where would Prince fit in in today's music scene?

If Prince were to come out now, instead of the 70's. Where would he fit? He would be too, well let's just say 'clean cut' for argument sake to fit into R&B where "manly border line thugs and rough necks" rule. On the flip side maybe in the alt rock realm his closest peer is a Ben Harper. Would he have been able to make a
"Purple Rain?" in todays climate? hmmm Would be the mega star he became? Really is there a place for a megastar anymore?

That's really tough to say because Prince's groundbreaking music thruout the 80's really helped influence alot of musical genres that came afterward.Unfortunately, something went wrong and alot of acts today simply recycle bits and pieces of classics and call it music. While mainstream radio desperately needs a fearless, diverse, musician who will not only break the rules but also redefine them,I don't see that happening anymore in this day and age.Talent has taken a backseat to image.

Sorry for the rant. What was the question again? lol

Prince is so talented, there would be no catagory for him today, these people can't even do half of what he can.

Love ya for lovin' Prince but um....he 'IS' in the music scene. He used to ask the question.."Are you a leader of follower". ANYONE who went to his MUSICOLOGY concert has heard him ask that question. A leader is someone that people tend to follow even if they don't want others to due so. He isn't asking any of us to follow him but we do. He himself is not a follower as he has always been a man who does his own thing. That deserves some huge respect. Either you like him or you don't. He is actually neither a leader or follower in the terms we ordinarily would think. He won't claim to be a leader of anything outside of leading his band, but that is in a whole different category. He is a compilation of everyone which makes him the most unique entertainer in the music field. There will be noone else who can touch the diversity he brings to the music industry. He can do it all. I can't name one single artist in the history of music who can do ROCK, COUNTRY, R&B, JAZZ, HIP HOP, NEO, RAVE, SALSA, LATIN JAZZ..and on and on. NOT ONE!

Peace and God bless!

First of all, No major company would give him so much freedom to produce his music.
Hip hop has changed the game. Masculinity and mysoginy is the only way to go.

And even if it happens, he would be dropped after his first flop from his record company and he would become an indy artist.

But I can see him becoming a major hip hop and RnB producer.

Serioulsy I don't see prince being successful as an artist nowdays.

PS : Also Ben Harper has nothing to do with Prince. lol

Prince wouldn't even get a record deal these days. Today's listeners only like boring ass slow to midtempo shit.
