Alright, damnit, in the song Space what's he sayin'?

This has bothered me for the longest. In Space is he saying "everything I wanna do to your body baby, I will do to your hand" as the lyric sites claim he is saying. Hand does rhyme with understand, but to me this makes absolutely no sense.

I believe he sacrifices the rhyme here and says head instead of hand. Makes much more sense as "everthing I wanna do to your body baby, I will do to your head"

Hell, I don't know, maybe he doesn't consider her hand part of her body and is going to perform all kinds of kinky sex acts to her hand.

Maybe I'm missing something totally obvious here that everyone else has already figured out.

I think he's saying "ham". Ham is Minneapolis slang for poop-chute.

I think he did it because we'd expect him 2 say hand cuz it goes better and its well...nasty giggle ~so he went the other way.Im pretty sure he loves women's bodies and minds...
"This ain't about the body, it's about the mind" <--like this line...not really expected in a song called sexy MF lol

There is this scene in which he seduces a lady over dinner, and he takes her hand and kisses it like in an old fashioned way... untill he starts licking her fingers and imo brilliantly does like her index and middle fingers are her legs, and so to say gives her a preview of the oral pleasure she will enjoy later on. It's kinda cool, check it out some time.

The Databank Transcription site (which usually seems to be pretty accurate) has it listed as "hand". By the way does anyone know who the Databank Transcription Team is?

It's "hand" the lyrics are printed in the Space maxi-single.

It means it rhymes with "understand."

C'mon now, you know there is a meaning to it in Prince's mind. I mean he may not be the best lyricist, but he very rarely puts two words together just because they rhyme

There's a song Prince wrote with the word "douche" and it made no sense other than to rhyme with a previous phrase. I still cringe when I hear it. Metaphorically, literally....from no angle does it fit.

I mean nothing like..."dirty like, Im'a spin you around, grab you by the waist and pump you til I hear my baby say owww!

Damn that shit don't even rhyme

Seriously though, before this turns into a bunch of bad Prince lyrics, Space is IMO a well crafted, well thought out song. I believe that he did have a reason for saying hand, and somebody better give me a good explanation.

It's not hand, it's head. Check out lyrics depot.

And, as to your previous post, I didn't think "18 and Over" was bad at all. Quite the contrary, that's some slick-ass rhyming!

They have "head".

Who knows? shrug
I love that song. I really love the "Universal Love Mix"

A couple possibilities:

1) Maybe she's still a virgin -- and he's telling her, "We don't even have to go "there" for you to be "hip to the deep rush."

2) Maybe he just takes a looooong time with foreplay -- starting with the hands before he goes anywhere else. After all, the longer the starting climb on a roller coast, the greater the rush after you hit the top. cool

yeah, I guess lyrics depot would know the lyrics better than Prince. as has been said, the CD single, which contains the lyrics, say it's hand, which is also what most people hear -- because its true. I doubt it is a misprint, and generally lyrics for CD's are not transcribed from the songs but provided by someone who knows and has them written, so it isn't a matter of miscommunication. this isn't a matter of debate or opinion, what the lyric is is absolute and beyond interpretation.

This "head" nonsense is simply people projecting their own opinion on the lyrics to try and make sense of them. no, it doesn't make sense as hand, but head doesn't make any more sense either.

Wow... eek
Although your point was well taken, it came across as quite condescending. People do tend to hear what they think is correct. But U totally scolded all of us for having opinions.... confused

It could possible be that if he's saying "head" he's saying he wants to make love to your body as well as your head (mind). Just my 2 cents. Besides, P is not the only one I've heard say it. It's been said by men in general.

CD inserts are notorious for making misprints. Even the track listings for my Love Symbol and Newpower Souls CDs are incorrect....I can only imagine how many errors there are in the lyric transcriptions.

That's not to say there aren't any errors on these lyric websites, but "head" does make perfect sense. The juxtaposition of mind and body is a common occurance in poetry, song, etc....especially when the subject matter is love.
