I wouldn't put too much faith in those figures. 3121 is credited with having sold 500,000 in the US which is his biggest single market; I think it is highly unlikely it has reached 7.5million in the world as a whole! Wiki is of course added to without facts being checked too severely; and it is notoriously hard to compile true sales figures.

I've edited that page to bring the sales figures down to something a tad more realistic... doesn't mean someone won't come along and ruin them all again in two seconds, though.

Were your changes just rough estimates?

It says that Controversy sold less than Parade! Is a kindergardener coming up with these figures?

No, they're from a rather detailed compilation found here:

http://www.ukmix.org/foru...hp?t=34161

They're not perfect but they seem to be about the closest thing to an accurate figure I could find on the Internet that actually went to any lengths to cite where the figures came from.

What a curious statement... do you have wordwide facts to cite that show otherwise?

Controversy is a much better album than Parade. How could it have possibly sold less?Don't get me wrong Parade is great too but it just pales in comparison.

How could it have sold less? Because Prince had a much bigger audience and market around the time of Parade than he did when Controversy came out, so it sold in larger numbers.

What's equality got to do with anything?

If that's the case, SOTT should be Prince's highest selling album IMO but it's far from it.

I think your math is off. It states that 3121 sold 1.5 mil worldwide. The overall numbers look pretty accurate to me. I'm always surprised by how well Come did commerically considering WB's promotion and P's anti-promotional efforts.

The numbers look more accurate now because I took the trouble to hunt down something semi-believable and then changed them before you had a chance to look at it. Some of the sales figures were outrageous previously. i think some fam must have been going by and repeatedly tacking a million here, a million there because the numbers just kept miraculously rising. lol They probably had him selling 200 million albums.

What you are stating is just your personal opinion. ...and that has nothing to do with cold hard facts. Dirty Mind and Controversy didn't sell all that well until Purple Rain was released. By the time Parade came around Prince had a huge built-in fan base. What would have taken 1999 to sell in a year, people would buy in the first month during the mid-late 80's. Parade, also, sold much better overseas.
