This is 'bout the Freaks... I've always dissed The Gold Experience. But listening again to the studio 'Now', i reckon that Prince was closer to the Beastie Boys than he was willing to get.
Discuss. (Now was better live than in the studio anyway).

I actually really, really like Now too.
Well, 'til he starts hyperventilating near the end. I love me a good Prince scream, but he took it overboard that time. Still though, a fun track. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Discuss. (Now was better live than in the studio anyway). "Now" was VERY Beasties coming from Prince. I always thought his rapping was done WAY MORE tongue in cheek than most thought it was. Furthermore, I think some his hip hop influenced tracks were much better than given credit for. That being said, Prince rapping often brings out a very clear anti rap bias from a certain section of the fan base. Some seem to think that rap is below Prince, but I often like when he mixes it into his batter. "Now" is an EXCELLENT piece of Prince rapping, and it DOES sound very much like Prince meets The Beastie Boys. Just another sign of P's range. BTW--"Now" live was often very awesome,I saw him do it a few times at Paisley Park, and I believe it sometimes rivaled the studio version. [Edited 4/7/07 23:10pm] "New Power slide...."

first time i saw P live was Pre-Gold Experience mid-slave debacle in Wembley Arena early 95, already heard the new songs off of the 94 Paisley Park bootleg. F*cking awesome. And don't even get me started on Days of Wild. More please! Chaos and Disorder wasn't all bad either. Off the cuff immediate guitar jamming, I Like It There...

A lot of the Gold Experience songs, maybe all of them, sound much, much better as live versions, especially Days Of Wild, Shhh and Now....and he would always play a slightly different version every night, even when he did several shows in several nights. Those shows in 94-95 were some of his most interesting shows ever....only negative point were probably the voice samples, which were sometimes a bit too much, but all in all, he gave us some of his best concerts back then.
