It was a letdown on 1st listen. Afterall, IMHO, he had just come off his best year musically, but I think the sentiment xpressed that it was a "Grower" was spot on. It has brilliant moments, but ultimately it's wildly un-even (kinda like a thrown-2gether collection of demos, which it was).

"I Like It There" is 1 of my all-time favorite songs, if he could've built a whole album around that more aggressive sound it would've really been amazing.

It was a piece of unmitigated crap then its a piece of unmitigated crap now. Sometimes I wonder if the guy actually thinks about his legacy. Rubbish like this isn't going to endear him to future generations...."this guy was supposed to be a genius???". Any Prince fan who likes this album likes it because its Prince, not because its good. Fandom can cause one to be a little too forgiving sometimes.

NB:

Of course, some may disagree with my view and thats understandable. Governments don't fund homes for the mentally challenged to the extent that they used to so that many would-be residents of such facilities now live amongst us and, often, have unsupervised access to the internet. This is not a bad thing per se, but it behoves those of us possessing a comparatively normal degree of intellectual acuity to demonstrate a certain degree of tolerance and understanding towards those less fortunate than ourselves. Remember, to them, Chaos & Disorder IS a truly good album.....they know no better. Forgive them and love them for they are, despite all appearances to the contrary, our brothers and sisters.

Peace, my children. Go in love.

Just got through listening to this CD (minus the song "Right the Wrong", I skipped over it, as I usually do. lol). I love the song, "Had U", that song is so haunting and beautiful. My only complaint is that it's too short, under 2 minutes long.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Hey, everyone has an opinion.

I, for one, couldn't believe that track 2 on his supposed masterpiece was something so completely generic, uninspired, and even dull as Right Back Here In My Arms.

But the difference for me was I liked Chaos & Disorder instantly but it took me a long time to get into Emancipation.

I think it's pretty amazing that those two albums could come out the same year. They are near opposites in every way, and I like them both.

That's just bullshit, (and I'll ignore everything else you said besides the statement above since at least the rest was funny). I like this album and not just because it's Prince. Ask me about Rave, Emancipation, TRC- or even Diamonds & Pearls- and you'll see how unforgiving I can be.
Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...music

I will take one disc of C&D over 4 discs of Rave & Emancipation any and every day nod The Truth is exempted from that because that shit is a shinging star.

I wished Prince would deliver a rock album like C&D...I am getting sick of the funk vibe of Musicology and 3121

I love his funk, but an out and out rock album would be the cats ass!
