I wished Prince would deliver a rock album like C&D...I am getting sick of the funk vibe of Musicology and 3121

This is one of the best and most underrated albums of Prince's career, and I will forever defend its importance. There weren't that many songs that rocked like "I Like It There" or had sweet pop sensibilities like "Dinner With Delores" or had the simplistic charm of "Had U". That album, along with the first time view of UTCM, made my summer of '96! [Edited 4/2/07 10:50am] I agree with most of your points (though not on my top 15 list!). The great element of this album is that you can tell it was recorded quickly and it doesn't suffer from the overproduction of a lot of his 90's work. It has a grungy, punk sensibility that reminds of a less funky, revolutionary or compositionally brilliant Dirty Mind.

I'm curious what the real recording process was for this album. I know he's said it was recorded quickly but weren't some of the tracks originally included on early versions of Gold and the aborted "The Dawn" 3 CD set? Or were those tracks re-recorded specifically for this disc?

I love it. And I hear u mike. When I 1st got the album, judging by the cover I thought it'd b a let down, but listening to it, I liked it straight away. It's a little rough but What of it? It's a rock album. I prefer it to 3121. I'd like the next album more jazzy, and certainly less pefect pop.

Excellent album very different from any other album. He really challanged his fan base with Chaos and Disorder. It's heavy in hard rock, and even country. I think it was done as a fuck you to WB because he knew that they would no be able to promote him with a hard rock/ country album. Of course with that, many of his fans where turned off by the album, since it was not the Prince they knew and loved but something much different.

Hard rock, yes. But Country??? I disagree- please tell me where you hear country??? Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Personally I think this is one of the more interesting additions to the Prince catalog. Song writing aside - due to the circumstances behind it we will never hear anything so raw and unrefined from him again. Most recently when listening to this disc I couldn't help but think how much better the studio version of "Purple House" would have been if it were recorded and mixed the same way. Hard rock, yes. But Country??? I disagree- please tell me where you hear country??? Most noted in "Right The Wrong" but imo. "Same December" even Zannalee" have an heavy country sound to them.

Actually...on the showtune tip, it has more of a "Waiting for Guffman" quality about it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I pretty much agree with that. I don't mind either, but they did definitely clutter up some of the tracks on this one. Still, I've grown to love almost every song on this one. Even "Right the Wrong" which is just plain WEIRD, even for Prince. [Edited 4/3/07 8:24am]

It's so interesting how different tastes people have.
IMO, Chaos and Disorder is a great album filled with spite and love. Although I could live without "Right the Wrong". The album is definitely more exciting and interesting than, say, Musicology. There are some true masterpieces on it. [Edited 4/3/07 7:56am]

Me too, I HATE that song. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The album is definitely more exciting and interesting than, say, Musicology. Absolutely. The songs have charm and identity. Right the Wrong, for all its failings, has more personality than Jam Of The Year, Right Back Here in My Arms, Somebody's Somebody, and Get Yo Groove On all put together. Emancipation was more "perfect" but Chaos' flaws were part of the appeal. It had energy & humanity that a lot of Prince's later music lacked. My Legacy

I've always believed the disclaimer on the album was meant to draw Dirty Mind comparisons--like Prince was saying, I'm so great even my demos are amazing. I think it has a great energy and a great flow. Of course Right the Wrong hurts it badly. Too bad she didn't bury that song along with her grandpa. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I don't feel the country vibe in Same December at all, I hate country but love that song. and of course, this is just my opinion. Right the Wrong- I don't think that song is easily categorized at all, but that may be why so many dislike it so much. I can take it or leave it myself.
