Best city to see Prince live?

Of all the shows I've ever heard, his best fans seem to be in Amsterdam... they really seem to get loud and emotional there.

I'd love to see him perform there just for that experience of seeing a crowd get into him big time like that... even if it meant that the plane landed and I'd hit the show and then have to catch the next flight out immediately following the (after) show...

Is there a city you'd like to see him most in, if money wasn't an issue?

And luv4u, this is a hypothetical -- therefore, keep your triggerhappy fingers in your pockets and don't move it to "Concerts." kthx.

The audience in the Netherlands seems to be most hardcore I´ve ever seen, it´s a unique experience to see Prince perform there. Sometimes, the same show might be a tad more interesting in other countries, for instance the ONA show in Hamburg was a bit tighter and fiercer than the Rotterdam ONA show but the Dutch audience and Prince´s interaction with them is very special, there seems to be a strong bond.

I´ve never really figured out why, maybe it´s because he´s played there during the Dirty Mind mini tour or maybe because he shot parts of the Sign Of The Times movie there, I don´t know, there seems to be some sort of mutual love, see also the Candy D. connection.
When it comes to aftershows, he´s definitely on fire in the Netherlands, ( that infamous Trojan Horse aftershow, or the Paradiso 1995 aftershows come to mind, to name just two ).

Most of the audience in the Lovesexy live release was also obviously from the Netherlands, as you can hear them shouting "Holland!" a lot of times ( something I found a bit inappropriate back then and still do).

I also like the energy of the Bataclan 2002 and 1995 experiences.

Then again, his shows in Hamburg are also always top notch though I´m not sure if it´s really got anything to do with the city itself.

My favorite place to see him though was the celebration 2002 at Paisley Park lol

I was at that show! eek disbelief
(if we're talking about the same thing...there's a pic of it?!)

I've only seen him in NY (City and Jones Beach), NJ, and Philly, but I have to say-- I like jammin' with the Philly crowd!!!

Well, you could do worse than Minneapolis. Everytime he comes to town he does a few sold out shows and then we caravan from downtown to see him at Paisley Park. It's kind of the Ultimate Prince experience.

Cool to see Amsterdam mentioned here, but of course Prince never played many shows in Amsterdam. Just the Paradiso gigs.
99% of his shows in the Netherlands were in other cities.
It's definitely true that there is a pretty significant Dutch fanbase that is very loyal, and travels as well.

When he walks on stage it doesn't matter what city he's in, but since I live in Philly, I'll say Philly. He comes here about every 2 years anyway.

that's simply not true. in cities like amsterdam, he could play anything and those in the audience are as receptive for new music as they are to the classics. he doesn't need to play "purple rain" to get people out of their seats in amsterdam. it seems like everyone in the audience knows the lyrics to all of his songs, because he'll frequently let them sing the songs for him.

they lose their mind for rarely played songs just as much as they would for "purple rain." you can't say this about ANY american city. you can say that about a handful of fans in each city, but not the ENTIRE audience.

to me, the amsterdam shows are packed with real fans... and it's no wonder he thanks them by performing aftershows every time he's there.

I would like to see Prince live in any city where it was warm year-round, had nice neighborhoods, reasonable property taxes & maybe even a decent school system in case he ever decides to have kids.

But I may be projecting on him the the way that I would like to see myself live.

In '04 I saw him in Champaign, Chicago, St. Paul (& Chanhassen), and Detroit.
Out of all those cities I have to say Detroit seemed more electrifying.

You guys are prolly aware of this, but there's an oldish radio thing where he alludes to having a special love for Detroit, calling you guys his "motor babies". It's kinda sweet. If i remember correctly he leaves some message for his Detroit fans recorded backwards as well. This is a 100 years ago tho so I don't remember all details.

I remember the details...gosh darnit!!!
YES! The best city to see a Prince concert is Detroit!! The love affair between Prince and Detroit dates back to his early days when he couldn't even BUY airtime. Detroit's favorite DJ...the one...the only...Electrifying Mojo had us rocking to Prince waaaayyyyy before the rest of the world caught on.

Prince, himself...christened us his "little Motorbabies"...live...on the air during a surprise call to Mojo after one of his many sold out shows here. There's a transcript of that call floating around the net. A kind soul on this board, whose name I will not mention...so don't ask...sent me a cd of that broadcast. It's one of the most valued pieces in my collection.

Detroit loves Prince and Prince loves Detroit!!!

A little explanation:

Prince wanted this concert to be in Holland, but there was no indoor concert-hall where the round stage fitted in. So, the concert took place in Germany / Dortmund, but initially tickets were solely sold in Holland. The show didn’t completely sell out in Holland, so after a while tickets for the right side of the arena were sold in Germany. Yes ... the Dutch and the Germans were separated.

There’s a big rivalry between the Dutch and the Germans (partly due to World War II / partly due to the soccer world tournament in 1972 / partly just out of tradition) ...

Holland had defeated Germany in the European soccer tournament recently before the concert. So thousands of Dutch people in a German arena just after winning the European soccer tournament:
Yes, they were shouting "Holland!" a lot!

I think the reason why Prince loves Holland so much (and vica versa) is that we

i'm not going to argue against how shallow prince is when it comes to women, but i'd still like to think he puts on the best shows in holland because of the crowd reaction to whatever he's playing...
