1. 1999
2. Dirty Mind
3. Controversy
4. Purple Rain

"Prince" is my number 5 choice but since we can only list albums from the 1980s, I guess it would be "Batman".
Andy is a four letter word.

Dammit. I forgot about 1999. I've been listening to ATWIAD and UTCM very heavily lately, so I'm in that mode.

I really don't know if I could jettison any of the others. Maybe The Funk Bible, cause it was pulled and not really officially released in the '80s...

Picking 5 from that decade is hella tough.

I'm very glad you started this thread since I've finally established my top 5. I even told some orgers last night that these are the top 5 that every Prince fan should not do without. Even if you're not a fan, you still need these.

5.

4.

3.

I used to have Lovesexy as number 5, but I've come to realize that Parade is better.

Okay, this is geeky, but I wanted to see what all these added up to, so I assigned 5 points for each number one, 4 for each number two, etc. (Someone had a tie for first, so I gave 4.5 points for each of those, and someone said no particular order, so I gave three points for each of that person's picks.)

1. 1999 (110 total points, 28 mentions out of 32 total ballots)
2. Sign 'O' the Times (97.5, 29)
3. Purple Rain (90, 25)
4. Dirty Mind (45, 19)
5. Parade (38.5, 14)
6. Controversy (30, 13)
7. Lovesexy (28, 11)
8. Around the World in a Day (20, 10)
9. The Black Album (10, 6)
10. Batman (9, 4)
11. Prince (3, 1)

The top three had nine number one mentions, and the next three each had one. So I guess there is a consensus about what Prince's three best albums (of the '80s) are. (And I guess they need to keep me busier at work.)

I don't know about the rest of your stats but Parade had at least 2 #1 mentions.

I didn't count the tie for first as a true #1 ranking.
