Besides, why should everyone have to like Prince? Why are y'all always trying to convert people into Prince fans? Let them make up their own damn mind about what they want listen. Should they choose Prince, cool, if not, so what? You can't convert the whole planet into Prince fans no matter how hard you try.

To answer the question raised in the topic...
My brother used to like some of his stuff, and he still does, but he is very picky. One of my friends has some degree of respect for Prince but doesn't listen to his music. Another friend also respects the man and actually downloaded his discography and listened to it. He liked some stuff but mostly he thought it was too 80's sounding.

My mom calls him an "acquired taste". Sure, when it came to my relationship with TGE & Musicology, it took me a few listens b4 I could "get it" and fall into his world.
But as far as being a fan (excuse me, admirer), I feel that you either are one, or you're not. You can't really convert anyone who's not into him into someone that's 100% into him. There are a lot of factors to Prince that could take time to get used to and there's so much to him that I doubt a "hater" could be converted to someone who's with him 100%.
The way I was introduced to him made all the difference in the fan I am. If I had seen him on "American Idol" without knowing who he was thru "Purple Rain", I would have thought of him to be extremely arrogant (I still think that, but not as extreme, and there's more to him than the arrogance he shows from time 2 time... my explanation for that night is that he didnt want to be there that much).
I started out as an admirer becuz I greatly respected his dedication to his art. I only knew him as a songwriter with dedication and a little attitude (both good & bad). I willingly accepted him into my life w/o a second thought. Sure, there were aspects that I had to get used to myself, but I wouldn't have at all if I didn't respect him as much as I did initially.

So hard to be a teen Prince fan. No one gets it, but whatever... I luv Prince 4ever! It's their loss, they're missing out on the greatest artist of all time.

NONE of my friends like him...they just thinks hes' soooo gay, which kills me cuz they dont even listen to his songs except the popular ones like "little red corvette", "purple rain",etc!But then again im in high school, i kinda expect that reaction!

none of them are huge fans, but all of my bestfriends have grown to like him to different levels.

my teammates crack jokes on me,my woman thinks it cute,my school friends always ask me questions when making bets about albums or songs about prince.all and all,they like him because i make the music part of my life everyday.

I've got 2 friends who like Prince. The rest don't.

My very Best Friend for the last 20 years, my younger sister, and my best cousin ALL Love Prince and we all went to Vegas together along with my husband who barely tolerates him (just for me, I think) Hubby didn't go to the concert though.....but besides them... my other circle of friends are CLUELESS and I had to be the lone voice saying "BE QUIET, you can tease me when it's over!" at a Super Bowl party we went to. I don't care...His music makes me very happy!

All my straight friends love the "Old Prince" stuff from 1978-1984. After that, they consider him losing his mind, changing his style, and living in La La Land.

Only one or two of my gay friends like him period. I've never understood that. I would think that gay people would love Prince. Instead, they like weak shit like Shitney Houston.

I do not have any friends that like Prince like I do. I work with my bestfriends and when other co-workers are saying stupid things about him, they always side with me even if they actually agree with the other person. That's what real friends do.

But, I am a supervisor of a team of about 35 operators and one day lastweek they through me a Prince Party to say Thank You. They made a Prince cake and the whole team wore purple. It was wonderful.
