PRAISING "What Do U Want Me 2 Do Girl" - ReExperiencing 'Musicology' VOL 1 This song is pure Prince perfection. From it's beautiful simplicity, 2 it's sublime use of Guitar and Bass, it represents one of my favorite musical "sides" of Prince. Eash part is perfect, including the vocal parts and the entire vocal arrangement.
Anyone here who can't dig this one, should have both their ears and their minds thoroughly examined by a team of professionals, who probably won't be able 2 help anyway... The Bass Guitar is just slammin'. Feel free 2 add the next volume in re-experiencing 'Musicology'... But comment on "What Do U Want Me 2 Do Girl" here... Peace. "He's a musician's musician..."

Sure, I find the song a little bit boring...
but I still like it a lot. It's very classy and I like the way its put together. Simplicity is definitely the key to its success. In fact, the jazz beat it has reminds me a little of the background music on one of the Peanuts specials... like the "Easter Beagle" special. I definitely peeked my interest at first listen because it tells an interesting story. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I consider What Do U Want Me 2 Do, The Ballad Of Dorthy Parker's step brother. As soon as I heard it I thought of Dorthy Parker. It's an ok song though. [Edited 3/27/07 12:30pm] Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I like the song, but there's one thing about it that really bothers me. For some reason, it sounds like he's saying "How do you want me to do" instead of "What"
listen to it.. it does NOT sound like the word 'what' This bothers me every time I listen to it, and it's all I can think about.

I absolutely adore this song. It's the perfect kick back and chill type of song. The drum work reminded me of his older stuff which is great and pleasant to the ears. At least my ears. The whole album is slammin' to me. I've always loved his slow jams so 'On the Couch', 'Call My Name' and 'Reflection' also touch me. Remember when u told me that love was touching souls?
Well, surely u touched mine. O{+>

I'm not as crazy about 'On the Couch'... most likely won't listen to that again. But I love Reflection... its all about wanting the simple things in life and the melody is just sweet in itself. Call My Name, I only seem to like when I watch the video, we have a strange relationship. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

After all this time, it's emerged as my favourite track from the Musicology CD.
Great melody, lyric and that drum sound is just so crisp; the Paisley Park Thwock! sound at its best.

When I first heard the song I thought, yuck, it's lite jazz. But it's probably the catchiest song on the album. Grows on you like, um, mold or something. But good mold.

Prince was taking it back 2 1987 with that one. I love it. It's one of my favorites from the 'Musicology' album.

That's a very cool song. It was the first song to grab me off of Musicology. I love the beat of the song. The song sounds so SOTT era-ish. I need to listen to that song again. Come to think of it, I need to listen to the album again. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

LOVE this song. Such a great Prince track that would fit right in on Sign. I actually like all of Musicology...I never understood why so many on here hate on it so much.

I have always thought this song was a giant piece of shit until people I view as credible voices regarding music started praising it (Namepeace!) and I went back and listened and I see what you are saying. It's interesting enough but not exactly brilliance. Someone said it was Dorothy Parker's twin and I want to know what they are smoking! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

It's a cute song w/a catchy tune. It makes me think he's at a club with his woman and some chick is trying to get his attention on the sly.

I always liked this one. And the guitar solo - whilst a little sparse - is very pleasant.
Did he ever play this song live? During the tour maybe? Coz if he did, I bet the solos woulda been great.
