Outkast, Influenced by Prince? Has anyone else noticed the strange similarities between Prince's music (with the NPG) and Outkast? They sound extremely alike. Anyone else agree?

Andre 3000 must have been listening to everything Prince did between 1986 and 1987 when he was recording the Love Below.

Yes, Outkast was definitely influenced by Prince. When they presented Prince (I believe it was when he was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame), Outkast talked about how Prince's music inspired them. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

If Big Boi isn't then Andre definitely is... he looks like he's tried to channel Prince a few times.

Definitelty - I hear Prince influence all over Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. I would say they're not just influenced by Prince and try to emulate him, but they've 'borrowed' from him on at least one song - The first half of "She lives in my lap" is an almost direct copy "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker". Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

wow dp. iz me favourite song. Do they pull it off, ot is this a bitch only thread? Well, if this is a bitch only thread then I apologise cos I'm not bitching I would say, yes, they do pull it off. It sounds to me more like homage than theft, and the song does spiral off into something quite different to BoDP. Let me know your thoughts when you've heard it. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

There are songs on The Love Below that sound very, very Prince-esque.
I'm sure someone already said this, but I didn't read all the posts before responding.

I've heard this song. although it does fall short of the ballad the similarities r there, also similar 2 the verse sections in joy & repetition. There's no dishonour in falling short of such a magnificent song. They've done some very cool songs, these boys. I'm not as familiar with them as I'd like 2 b.

And how is the new one? R they goin' anywhere The best Outkast album in my opinion is Aquemini followed by Stankonia but neither is anything like The Love Below. The Love Below is the first time Andre went a different direction and started singing instead of rapping. The new album is a soundtrack to idlewild and not too bad but does have a lot of guest artists as well as Outkast tracks. I think Andre started getting tired of rap a while back and is re-inventing himself. I look for him and Big Boi to part ways soon and go their own directions.
