The song doesn't fit in the collection

If you clicked on this subject you probably thinking what is he talking about. I'm talking about the song "Solo" on the "Come" album(CD). I love this album (although its not on my top 10 list). It's probably one Prince's most underrated cds. And even though its not his best work, it's not his worst either (hear Old Friends For Sale). He starts out strong with the title track and smoothly progresses into the next song (Space). "Papa" is a view we've never seen from him before. Gets you thinking. "Letitgo" is a throwback funk classic and "Dark" is a deep emotional masterpiece. But somehow I can't seem to see why he put "Solo" on this particular album. Sounds like he died and went to heaven with the harp playing along. Not usually a regular instrument you might hear on a Prince record. And seeing he didn't write the song himself makes some kind of sense to me. I'm not saying it's a bad song don't get me wrong by any means. I'm just saying if you have this album and listen to it as whole, then you'll probably get my picture. Now if anything this song could probably fit on Friends For Sale, Trust, News, or even Rave with its back and forth crazy music going on. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. Peace and be wild!

I know what you mean. I usually skip over that song when listening to Come (I think the Rolling Stone review called it "an exercise in reverb best left in the vault"). But I was so fascinated that he would do a song with the playwright of M. Butterfly. That seems like it would have gotten more press or attention. Maybe it would have if the song were better.

Come is one of the albums I really DID NOT appreciate when it came out. And part of that is because I probably didn't spend the right amount of time on it. (It didn't catch me right away, and I was probably still pissed over D&P, and to a much lesser extent prince) But...I pulled that out a few weeks ago, and now I love it. I truly love the first side of that album. The second side is a bit confusing though.
Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

most of the songs on come are really good but as an album it's a completely incoherent, unfocused mess, and i dont think prince really tried to stop it being a total mess so its not that surprising.
