Beating the Bootleggers

So, why isn't Prince doing this or why won't he do this? Article in newspaper today with above title talking about how bands like Pearl Jam are releasing their live shows online immediately after each show- for $10-15. Since Prince hates the boots so much, considers himself one of the "most booted artists ever" (as he said on Larry King), why has he not started doing this, especially when it would fit in perfectly with his business model of direct to fans? Why not???
(and sorry if this topic has been beaten to the ground previously- on my mind today after reading this article)

perhaps he doesnt want every note he plays to be consumed by the entire public. A concert and a recording are two entirely different mediums. each concert may not be the artistic statement he wants to make. He may not be happy with a concert performance or maybe he is trying new songs from an upcoming album that he doesnt want exposed to the masses. just coz he chooses not to release it doesnt mean a bootlegger has the right to.

i think the question should be, who has the right to release, control and profit from his work. Ultimately, its Prince.

saying that, i am partial to a boot myself!

he should every few years release bootleg songs (like how he did with the crystal ball project).

good idea! But I'd love to be able to go home and download the concert I was just at as well! I see there's a boot of the aftershow I went to in Vegas...I would've paid Prince himself another $50 for that.
The idea in this article is to put out of business those making money off the live shows- people are doing this to P also, so why shouldn't he put them out of business and take the money himself?

I'm sure by now, he's pretty confident on stage and not worried about an "off" night now and then. Nothing that bad goes wrong anymore, and again, the shows are getting out anyway. As far as new material, well that gets out too, especially if it's played live.

I asked this very question Eric Leeds a couple of years ago, and he basically said the same thing you said and told me : "Go ask Prince." lol

Guess we´ll never know how his mind works. I never had the feeling that he really has good instincts when it comes to releasing stuff. He´s a genius in many fields but his release policy doesn´t make sense.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

well the article talks about Pearl Jam charging $10-15 for a show, so I figured an aftershow is worth more, but you're right- maybe not that much more!

Prince is a relatively small man. Trying to beat them up would require hired personnel, preferably his bodygurads, to hold 'em still while Prince delivers a couple of solid jabs and hooks on their bodies.

"That'll teach you, motherfucker! The song is called, "eye Can't heart U NEmore", not "I Can't Love U Anymore" like you stupid fucks printed it on the CD tracklist!"
