Where would you have Prince on the greatest songwriters list of all time? I've thought about this for quite some time and Prince would definitely be in my top 10. Maybe even top 5. Check out my list:
1. Lennon/McCartney 2. Stevie Wonder 3. Holland/Dozier/Holland 4. Gamble/Huff 5. Burt Bacharach 6. Smokey Robinson 7. Prince 8. Ray Charles 9. Diane Warren 10. Curtis Mayfield Peace and be wild!

Prince may be up there. I also think those Motown Guys, Lennon/McCartney, Bob Dylan, Paul Westerberg, Alice Cooper and Elvis Costello deserve recognition. merf

Prince is up there. He's certainly written his share of classics.
Lately he's written songs that are not so universal, but really are only going to be sung by him (Digital Garden, anyone?) But the simpler stuff like Kiss, Nothing Compares 2 U, I Feel For You are absolute clasics, and could be sung by anyone. And even lesser songs are great. I sang Mad Sex & played acoustic guitar and realized that it really was a good pop song, even all stripped down and not sung by prince. It may take a while to properly evaluate his legacy. My Legacy
