What songs does Prince rap on ?

I'm trying to think of Prince songs on which he raps - I can think of plenty with raps or spoken bits in them, but only 4 on which Prince actually raps - Dead on it, 18 & over, Face Down, and Acknowledge me.

I know there must be others but my brain isn't in gear - I just can't think of them. I'm specifically looking for the more gangsta bits he does (well, as gangsta as he gets), not stuff like Housequake and Annie Christian, which I don't really consider to be rap (although I guess it could be argued that they are).

I also know there's probably been threads on this before, but we all know how good the search engine is. smile

Any help would be appreciated.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Ah thanks. See - I told you my brain wasn't in gear, you'd think I'd have thought of P Control, at least. smile

No good to me, I'm afraid. I should've said - I can only use officially released stuff. Sadly, I don't have the Good Life maxi-single, and I don't remember any rapping on the album version (although that doesn't mean much, given how good my memory is).

Thanks to everyone so far. More, please! smile

definitely a lot of the songs in TGE

heh, I said that if Prince did any genre, he'd make me like it.

That's yes and no in this case. Sometimes I like it when he raps, but other times, I can't stand it. It more or less depends on the lyrics and the music itself.

My first experience with "rapping" Prince (actually "rapping" prince) was P. Control on TGE... that song is really a stretch for me because it's so different from everything else I heard previously. Not only does he rap, but it's my first time hearing him openly curse... but I dunno what to think of the song right now. Strangely enough, it grows on me with each listen, but I still find it a little unusual. Maybe its the musical tone they have playing in the background, which more or less defines how unusual TGE is compared to PR, Musicology & 3121, not to mention everything he did previous to PR.

It's strange how I'm so on the fence about the song, but the way I feel about it is like Darling Nikki... its 'forbidden' in a way cuz it's not the kind of song you can openly broadcast w/o turning a few heads, but there's something risqué about both songs that drives me nuts (in a good way). It certainly wasn't the way I was raised and the fact I can like something like that is still, I can't begin to describe how that feels. Its almost like it goes against the laws of my nature, but at the same time, it tempts to "the dark side" and want to tear down those barriers and really get into it based on the mesmerizing vibe in the music.

Definitely

P. Control
Endorphinmachine (part of the reason why I don't like it all that much)
My Name is Prince (he's not doing the rapping himself... but after hearing it twice, I hate it with a passion) mad

Definitely those ones off of TGE. I just listened to it yesterday, so those two tracks are fresh in my mind.

I don't remember any rapping in Endorphinmachine, I'll have to give that a spin this evening (obviously way too long since I've listened to it).

Or are you talking about the 'Hold up, wait a minute, Ain't no good unless somebody else is in it' bit ? Cos to me that's more singing than rap.

Thanks for your contributions.

I just found the song very difficult to understand. I can't even pick up what words he used... and reading the lyrics, it's like a foreign language to me. The only part I did understand was the part that you mentioned.
Come to think of it, I can make out the 2nd verse fairly well... but the song sounds like a mess, complete utter chaos.

I could see where you get that from... but I hardly call that rapping compared to some of his other work.

I love the song to death, though.

Definitely. The first song I heard him rap was P. Control... sure, it was a little unusual compared to Prince's other material previous to it... but there's just something about it that I'm crazy about. One of my fav. tracks off TGE... the rapping's a little sloppy, but I don't care. I love its rhythm and some of the lyrics make me laugh because they're bizarre, but good.
