Purple Rain--I loved the different fonts used; plus it had the "Dig if U will..." message on the back. I studied that thing so much it was practically etched on my brain.

Love the Parade inside spread as well, but I always wished it came with a lyric sheet.

Part of the joy of getting a new Prince album was studying the inside contents while listening to the new music. It's not the same with CDs now.

Maybe For You with it's detail of what instrumentation Prince played on the record,

Maybe the Black Album, in these days of environmental concerns

nod I was obsessed briefly with the message on Purple Rain...(I wish someone would post that...I would but it's cold out and mine is in the car).... biggrin
And we got a poster! woot!

It is def. NOT the same with CD's. I also don't think the effort is there like it once was for that reason.

Lovesexy had the best font ever. The original typeface and the layout of the titles on the backcover were ingenious. Each song has one curly-cue character, usually the "S", except Eye No (which introduced the eye pictogram) and Dance On (which has a curly "C"). And the title design of Lovesexy incorporates the male and female symbol. There's just so much going on, but the effect is simple and elegant.

I like it even better than Sign o' the Times font, which is also pretty damn beautiful.

Even though the cover of Musicology looks like Work Experience Boy made it using Microsoft Word in his lunch break, I seem to remember the booklet being pretty good.

I enjoyed Crystal Ball's also, giving some details of what inspired the songs.

Emancipation also had some good detailing, probably wouldn't have caught the ultrasound otherwise

Nothing, but nothing will ever compare to the Around The World In A Day gatefold LP package. Nothing.

Around the World in a Day --

The funky color trees and the alternating typefaces totally suited Prince's "psychadelic" album.
