What R Ur Thoughts on SOTT song With the 20th Anniversary of the all important 'Sign O The Times' album I wanted 2 know everyones thoughts on the title track from the Album. For me when I was very young & heard it 4 the 1st time it sounded like something from another planet. I was instantly hooked. A very important song that is still relevant 2day.
With lyrics like "A sister killed her baby cuz she couldn't afford 2 feed it /And yet we're sending people 2 the moon" or lines like "In France, a skinny man died of a BIG disease with a little name". That is even more true 2day....& yet still our little man is only known 4 songs like 'Little Red Corvette'. Strange but true..... So what r ur thoughts on this ahead of its time song?? ..... IMHO it doesn't get the just songwriting credit I feel it deserves

I like it. I like how he used a stripped down beat so more focus would be on the words he's saying. And its definitely just as relevant today as it was in 87. "I'M OK AS LONG AS YOU ARE HERE WITH ME!!! SEXUALITY IS ALL WE EVER NEED!!!!!"

I'll let you guys know after I hear the song a couple of more times.
The first time I listened to it, I was semi-distracted so I don't think I gave it enough attention to make an opinion. The 2nd time, I felt it started a little odd for me, but I got into it halfway through with the lyrics and such. I'm not quite sure where I stand on it right now, but I promise to get back to you once I have. With all the talk I hear about the song and its album with the same name, I definitely need to look into it for myself to get my own take on it. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Have u ever heard the instrumental version played as the credits roll on the SOTT concert movie? It reveals princes greatness as a musical arranger. Whilst it is minimal, each part is esential. Those subtle synth stabs that occur only briefly half way through the piece are beautiful. SOTT is a blues song. Don't care what anybody thinks, it is an it's fabulous.

Absolute bona fide classic. Not just by Prince, not just from the decade it hails, but in in the history of songwriting itself, period.
Prince's best ever lyrics, IMO. And a cool, cool tune. And I agree, 3121 - every time I watch the SOTT movie, I have to rewind those closing credits. Perfection.
