Diamonds and Pearls or Gold? (the songs) Which title track do you prefer and why? | |

"Diamonds and Pearls". I've never been a fan of "Gold", even though it's my best friend's favorite Prince song and the one that made her a fan. I like "Diamonds and Pearls" for the lyrics. "If I gave U Diamonds and Pearls, would U be a happy boy or a girl? If I could I would give U the world. All I can do is just offer U my love." For me, it means that material possessions mean nothing if there is no love behind them. Anyone with money can buy you some diamonds and pearls, but real love is priceless; plus, it is also the most valuable thing anyone can give you. Prince Rogers Nelson

Gold. It's one my top favorites for a ton of reasons. But I love, love, LOVE the lyrics and his voice....plus, it rocks. I'll take a Prince rock tune over a ballad of his anyday!

D&P is really cool and crazy, and rosie is so passionate throughout the whole song
As a duet it's in the same school as "Take me with u". And P is usually pretty useless in a duet Gold, I never could stand. It's an injurous blemmish on the album. [Edited 3/5/07 7:07am] | |

Gold because I love the guitar solo and the lyrics are deep and insightful.
D and P was a great pop single but it always seemed half written to me...the chorus is much stronger than the verses. All good things they say never last... | |

I just heard Gold
And am head over heels for it. Since I heard it, it hasn't stopped playing in my head. I hope I memorize it soon because it's annoying hearing the same couple of words over and over again. It's torturing me, but in a good way. I just felt like it hit me in a special place that hasn't been touched, maybe never before... my ears perked up at the chorus (the part that keeps repeating in my head) and it's driven me crazy since.  had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Gold has brought me to tears. After hearing it 4 times, something drastic finally happened. Oh man, if my roommate was here now, she'd think I was out of my mind.
I knew that the chorus hit me somewhere special. My soul and heart started crying and I still have tears running down my face cuz of it. "Everybody wants 2 sell what's already been sold Everybody wants to 2 tell what's already been told What's the use of money if U ain't gonna break the mold? Even at the center of fire there is cold All that gitters ain't gold" Just a combo of beautiful music and resonating lyrics reached into my soul and made it cry. Diamonds and Pearls is pretty good and all, but Gold is in a class by itself. It's definitely on my list of favorite Prince songs towards the very top... I think it might even be 3rd place (Purple Rain is #1 and Little Red Corvette is # 2). had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone | |

But they r not good lyrics.
The're sickeningly ignorant while trying to be cute. 
Prince on a preach, Empty rhetoric, hinting at common sense. Somehow similar to the song America, which only got some dumb amercanos going. The music on america is much better though. D&P is wacky and doesn't pretend 2 b profound though. | |
