Prince, Bruce and Sting are just better with real bands...

Sting gets his 2 band mates back together, and even though they're over the hill, he sells out stadiums again.

Bruce Springsteen gets his band back and his fans come back.

What if Prince had the revolution or the Lovesexy band back? I mean real personalities not hired hands?

Watch those old videos, man he is so much better when he's got his real band with him.

well i dunno. the Police may just be awful live now. Just cuz they got together again doesnt mean they are going to be good.

Bruce and the E Street Band are great live but I truly believe it has more to do with Bruce than the band.

Same goes for Prince. What if the Revolution have all just gotten to be lazy musicians? i think there is a reason why Prince has used them again.

Whatever. His "real" band? The Lovesexy band was just as much "hired hands" and the band he toured with for Musicology. Lovesexy band might be "real personalities" to you and maybe that;s a bit of nostalgia. The reason the Police would "sell out" stadiums (aren't they playing arenas) is because of the novelty of reuniting under the name The Police.

Fact is, Prince has always changed band members in and out from day one.

I saw Springsteen in Minneapolis on Halloween night, but without the E-Street Band. He had an anonymous lineup, and though Bruce seemed to put his heart into it, the show lacked. 2 main factors were Human Touch, and Lucky Town , the 2 tepid records he was supporting at the time.

Saw Sting in Winnipeg on his first tour after leaving the Police. Supported a dynamic , jazzy record (Dream of the Blue Turtles). Sting was fantastic, sounded great, and had a good energy level. He was not with the Police , but had a crack band, including one of the Marsalis bros.

I guess my point would be that a band and it's singer can be bouyed by the overall level of the material that they perform. Prince was certainly rolling with Purple Rain, 1999, and Lovesexy, and was driven. I think this made the Revolution more attractive as a whole (in particular the Lovely Lisa!)

Lovesexy had Dr. Fink, Eric Leeds, Sheila E, Levi, Cat, Boni.. They dont seem like hired hands to me. they had personality and most of them had been with P for awhile..

Hey, his current bandmembers have personality. Renato looks like Inspector Gadget, Rhonda's pulled back hair look like a space helmet--or one of those Trojan-Spartan-Roman brush top deals. And Candy, she's white.

Hello All.....it is me once again.....and this is a topic I knew I was going to come acros on here sooner or later it just so happened I came across it today.....

and this may raise some eyebrows but here I go anyway.....the only reason I feel Prince should get back with The Revolution is for markeeting only...because from a musical standpoint it usually never works.....and judging by the fact that his face is everywhere right now I am not sure it would be a great move at this point and time.....allow me to just list a few bands that re united only in my opinion to hurt their legacy.....

Kiss - this was by far the most horrible reunion ever.....all they did was go on stage and hack their own songs more than they already were.....and when Ace and Peter left they brought in two other guy dressed them up like Ace and Peter and are still selling it to their fans who are stupid enough to keep promoting them and I just think they should have realized how bad the reunion tour went and just called it quits

Cream - three great musicians but when they got back together yes they sold out everywhere they played but they just didn't sound "Pure" their sound was old and just didn't attract me like the original time they were together did

The Eagles - Great marketing here they did onme tour and called it done.....and went their own way again.....yeah you may hear from them from time to time but they aren't constantly touring trying to people to keep paying the 350.00 per ticket

Van Halen - they can't even get the re union off the ground before it snowballs again LOL

Prince has always had a good ear for musicians and if we look at the ones he has surrounded himself with I am going to go on the record and say I don't think he needs The Revolution.....NPG.....or any of the others to say the least he will always find the musicians to fit what he wants to play.....but I will say I thought The Revolution were great.....but that does not mean I need to see the on stage with Prince to go se him live nor would it make me wnt to go to the show more.....if anything I would be hesitant to go because come think about this.....we hear from Prince all the time.....we know how he sounds.....anyone hear from The Revolution.....NPG.....or any of his other "bands" for that matter.....Prince does the exact same thing Ozzy Osbourne does.....grabs musicians and once he plays with them and lets them sprout wings he lets them go and finds new ones.....

In closing just ALWAYS remember these two facts

Reunion = Marketing

Reunion = we are broke and need money come see us

Peace and Be WILD!!!!!

I don't even think he need to "reunite" maybe he just needs to give his band more of a spotlight. I guess since we don't see P in any videos anymore with a band this might have something to do with it. All the old videos featured the band usually, or at least one member like Wendy in "kiss".

I dont get the big deal about The Police reunion, to be honest with you. I thought there Grammies performance was, at best, mediocre. Sting was awesome, as usual, but the other two guys werent exactly cutting it.

Hey I get it. Nostalgia. Like I said, the Lovesexy band were just as much hired hands as the Musicology Crew. You just like the Lovesexy band better. As far as them being with Prince for awhile compared to the Musicology band...let's do some math.....

How long various band members had been w/ Prince-

Lovesexy Band in 1988:

Dr. Fink- Nearly 10years

Sheila E.- 4 years (his drummer for only 1 year)

Eric Leeds- 3 or 4 years

Cat- 1 year

Levi- 1 year

Boni- 1 year

Musicology Band in 2004:

John Blackwell- 3 years

Renato- 2 years

Maceo Parker- 5 years

Candy- 15 years (on and off)

Rhonda- 8 years

Mike Scott-7 or 8 years

Greg Boyer- 2 years

Prince ain't like those other groups. Springsteen had people who contributed so much to his sound that it didn't sound right to hear anything else. Most importantly, Prince has had the breadth of styles to be sort of unlimited. As long as he had good musicians with him he'd be as good as always. Springsteen tried to change bands but his music was so limited in style, that having soul singers and such on these songs sounded ridiculous. Prince can play jazz, rock,r&b and that's the difference, his versatility. And for the stage he's in now, his band suits him just fine, why change it.
