May 16, 2000-Prince press conference

I just got through looking at "NY Press Conference" at Housequake where Prince held a press conference announcing he was going to back to using his name "Prince" again. This video really is fascinating because you hear how knowledgeable he is about the music industry, the mechanisms and components that control it and his arguments for and against various issues related to the industry. But on the other hand, you get a sense of how obsessive he is about ownership of master recordings, creative control, state of the music, radio. It was kind of like listening to guy on the verge of a breakdown, but clearly this was a man with an axe to grind after Rave Un2 The Joy failed on the charts and his relationship with Clive became combustible.

And what was up with Pricne calling out Carlos Santana for not givng his "big brother" Larry Graham credit for a sample from "People" (Graham Central Station's debut)? It was like Prince grew attached to Larry and was buddy-buddy with him to the extreme with name checks and all. Man if that Kevin Smith doc ever was released and if it was as funny as kevin described it would be entertaining as hell, lol.

Personally, if the guy doesn't want to talk now, that's cool. How many people want to hear him gripe about his usual topics of choice.

I just saw it and I found it really interesting, some of the things he said. It's neat to see him in that setting because, this sounds weird to say, it really "humanized" him. You see him laugh a couple of times and smile a whole lot. You get to see him address the public from one person speaking to another, not as a musician where he shares his material with his audience.

And you get to see his sense of humor, which is a pretty rare sight as it is.

I'm glad that he finally cut all that hair off, though. It looked he just fell out of bed and didn't bother fixing it up.
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
