First time you heard Prince and thought "Oh my God" Can you remember the first time you ever heard Prince. Was it "oh wow, this guy sounds amazing"? or was it "What the hell is this guy on"?
I remember my cousin buyin the 1999 album back in 82 and i listened to it and thought this sounds Sh*t (I was, at the time, into rock Iron Maiden,Saxon & stuff) but once i listened to it a few times it changed my outlook of it. Then of course came "Doves" followed by Purple Rain soundtrack and I WAS CONVERTED (got my hair cut and everything) Rome wasn't built in a day But the earth was created in six And God resteth on the seventh Reality is an illusion

Actually, I just said "Damn, I gotta get that album (back then we were still in vinyl era) and the song was once again, "Soft and Wet". It wasn't the lyrics but the music itself. Something dif. "I don't make the rules. I just play"

To be technical, the very time I heard Prince was when I was only really little... I can't even remember anyone. On my dad's old VHS tape of recorded music videos, I'm sure I had seen "1999" while he was recording it... but I had no idea how old I was at the time: Therefore, I'd have no idea.
The first time I remember seeing the tape, I was only 6-7 and when I heard 1999, I thought it was an okay song. That was really before I knew anything about music, so my opinion at that point wasn't "solid". Then my dad made a 12-song mix on CD, including his favorite hits from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Some of the other songs included Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run", "Paradise on the Dashboard", Lionel Richie's "Dancing on the Ceiling" and "All night long", Irene Cara's "What a feeling...", ironically, Billy Idol's "White Wedding" (ironic cuz i liked him when i was 3 and I think he's a nut these days) and "Stairway to Heaven." The first time I heard "Stairway to Heaven"... it was okay, I guess, I didn't get it so much. Then I heard someone at school try to play it and I got hooked. But I'm drifting off topic, right after "Stairway to Heaven," he placed "I would Die 4 U". I can still roughly remember the first time I ever heard. I was instantly taken in by the beat and thought it was totally cool and then "Baby I'm A Star" was directly after it (as in the movie as I found out) and it feel like it was the first song extended. But that was still before I knew who Prince really was. The song(s) and I were reunited with new meaning when I saw the show at the end of the movie and I was hooked, but part of it really was due to the fact I've haerd the song before and really liked it. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

The first time I SAW Prince I thought "Oh my God"
but I guess it had to be the Darling Niki song. I was so young and innocent to hear such a thing

When I was 9 or 10 yrs old, I used to get really excited when "1999" and "Delirious" played on the radio. I had no idea who was singing the songs, and I didn't even realize that they were sung by the same person. I guess this was a sign that I was drawn to his music. I was 11 yrs old when "When doves cry" came out". I was completely hooked then. I used to sit around and wait for it to play on the radio so I could hit the record button on the tape recorder. I became a die hard Prince fan at that time.

1982 - 5th grade birthday party, my gf's parents had the 1999 album
The wow moment though for me also was when I heard "Exotic City" (because he swore and back then that was really different)

Little Red Corvette - loved the song but thought his dance moves were kind of cheesy then, why wasn't he doing a backspin or breakdancing
When Doves Cry was the first "he's soooo much better than everyone else" song for me
