I think some of you guys have had some really interesting points, and there's obviously a lot of narrow minded nonsense too. I think someone put it quite elequently, I'm gonna stop whining, delete all the nonsense he's written (since ironically he left warners for more artistic freedom), and dig out some of the old classics. In response to someones question, about graffiti bridge, yes I think it's an excellent album despite it's critical lack of success, but then I've liked every one of prince's albums prior to that point and til about gold, then things just got very shakey and as far as I can see havn't improved. It's not a case that one track, guitar has turned me off, for me it has been a succession of very weak material for a long period, and fine there is the odd gem but not enough to keep me interested. I'd be interested to know how many musicians are still diggin princes studio stuff, and whether or not it is just blinkard 'fans' who are still buying the music. Good Lord. I come back to this thread and it's become JW world and someone calling people "retarded nut-fans". If the original poster is heartfelt in his/her decision to quit Prince, than nothing will change that decision. I didn't like "The Rainbow Children", and I will admit that his newer stuff is nothing compared to Prince back in tha day, but there were lots of old Prince songs that I can't stand either. To this day, I still absolutely hate "Raspberry Beret". I just don't like that song, no matter how much I try and the video just freaks me the hell out (although I do like the cloud suit). I'm also not that big on the "1999" album and I hate "ATWIAD"(except for "Pop Life"). "Chaos and Disorder" was total shit; and I would use it as a coaster if I didn't need it to complete my Prince collection. I just hate leaving things incomplete. There's not a single Prince album that I can listen to from start to finish without hitting the skip button at least once. He's got great songs, good songs, okay songs, bad songs, terrible songs, and pure shit songs on every album he's ever put out, in my opinion, but what artist in music history doesn't? I have to agree with Wonder505, who stated that Prince fans who love everything he's ever put out are just as bad as Prince fans who piss and moan about how all of his newer material sucks compared to his older stuff. I refuse to ever believe that Prince will ever make another "Purple Rain", just like I know that Micheal will never make another "Thriller". Those albums were at the highest point any artist can reach, they were masterpieces and once you have done a masterpiece, it's pretty hard to make another one like it... in fact, why would you want to, that would be boring and wouldn't show much growth as a musician to just copy the winning formula over and over again. Real musicians should want to grow in their music, not remain in the safe zone. Prince will always have songs that I love and ones that I hate, but I'm happy knowing that he actually writes, produces, and composes the majority of his stuff, especially in a time when sampling is soo popular. This will forever make me a Prince fan. I could never quit Prince, because his music has given my life alot of joyous moments and happy memories. Oh, yeah, and I've also not heard "Guitar" yet. Okay let me address of your points. Look at my Org history. I joined in 2005. I became a Prince fan in 1984 and STOPPED being a fan in 1991. Didn't like his music anymore, didn't get mad at about it and DIDN'T GET MAD OR INSULT PEOPLE WHO CONTINUED TO LIKE HIS WORK. I wouldn't call people names who like music that I don't. that's immature and retarded. I literally had nothing to do with Prince in the 13 years I was gone. Didn't talk about him, didn't write about him, when I was done with him, I WAS DONE WITH HIM. Can you do that??? I came back in the fold in 2005 after the success of Musicology tour and after discovering that SOME, NOT ALL, of his newer tracks I actually liked. Where and how does that translate that I like every one of his releases? How can I be a nut fan when I had the balls unlike you to walk away completely, didn't buy his music, go to his shows or even visit any of his fansites for 13 years or whenever the fansites existed! I have even clearly stated the CDs and songs that I don't like. You are such a bitter battered Prince fan that you can't even read. I clearly stated in my previous thread how much I don't like "Guitar", I've mentioned before how much I don't like Musicology or even Emancipation. How can I be a nut-fan if I had the balls to leave Prince world and will be honest when Prince's music is not good on some CDs? I think it's funny that you claim to rather be a battered fans. Battered fans are a bunch of lonely miserable losers who are just as obsessed as a "nut-fan" because instead of just moving on, you harp on website bitching about things you can't change. I don't mind criticizing Prince's music. We need a balance of good and negative opinions. That is definately needed, and it's your right. But you take it further and insult people because they like music you don't. what kind stupid wack immature shit is that? And you're right, while your sitting on messageboards bitching and bitching, I'm going to continue buying and enjoying music THAT I LIKE. [Edited 2/24/07 8:45am]

I hear you Wonder505. I wasn't feeling Prince music in the 90s as well and was a returning fan during the Musicology tour. There's some music of his that I like and some I don't like, but I respect the fact that he takes chances or risks with his music. He's covered everything from Jazz, rock, blues, r&b, pop, etc. That's a true artist, never afraid to take risks with his music or face the criticism he gets from it. Remember on the BET awards when some fans were surprised he did that song on that show? Well did he stop performing it because of that? No...see that's what I like, an artist whose not afraid of taking risks and the criticism he receives from it but doesn't stop him from performing songs he likes.
I don't know anyone who likes every piece of music a musician puts out, but hey if there's a song you like or don't like, there's no shame about it.They'll always be people that will criticize Prince fans, calling them nut jobs, azz kissers, brown nosers, sheep, who gives a ish? They're not paying for the Prince music you purchase, it's your choice of what you like hearing and you don't have to prove that to anybody but you. We're not all going to like the same songs, it's to each his/her own right? So you go ahead and continue being the Prince fan you are proud of being and ignore what everyone else thinks about it....because the same ones that criticize you will be the first ones standing in line when he announces a concert. You are clearly suffering from Prince battered fan syndrome. and yes you are acting like Prince is the only musician in the world. Why complain? A musician can either make the music you like or don't like. We've all experience buying a CD and ended up not liking it. So what do you do? Sell that shit and don't buy anymore Prince music! What is the point about bitching constantly on messageboards about a musician who does not make music you like, and then get mad because other people have different taste than you and actually like it. Just because you consider his music crap don't mean the rest of the world have to fall behind you and hate it too. It appears to me that you have a hard time moving on and get mad at the people who stay behind. Why do you care? Prince is gonna do the music he does. His albums have not sold well so at this point that tells me that he does not care, he's going to do the music he likes and you could either buy it or don't and MOVE ON! Don't get me wrong, you can clearly state your opinion on Prince's music being shit, but I notice you have a tendency to name call people who differ on opinion or like his current stuff and that's just plain childish. hey ms Wonder505,
First of all you still haven’t answered by questions. You mentioned I don’t make sense and all that, but you refused to point out where exactly I didn’t make sense. Also do I give a shit if you were a fan and came back as a fan later? Walk away from his music? I was done with him, or leave prince world, blah, blah! What’s up with all these dramas? It’s a fucking music you psycho. You make it sound like it’s a marriage or something with prince you freak. It just a music cd that I disliked. I bought various cds by prince and didn’t like it so I simply gave bad reviews like giving a bad review after watching a bad movie. Do you understand that ms w? do you still have a trouble understanding this? You seriously have a problem with understanding or highly delusional. As mentioned before, I made a comment about nutty fans. When I gave bad reviews, p fans jumped over me by saying such as, “p don’t care about hits, he’s a legend, p don’t care about commercial hits, p is evolving, blah blah.” and insulting me. So I mentioned that they are morons and then you replied back saying I have this syndrome or that and telling me about your retarded 13 yrs of drama with prince. Now who’s the one who suffers from prince battered syndrome??? Hmmm??? I’m glad that you are not a nut fan, but it sounds like you have no life. I don’t get into a point where I walk away and come back after 13yrs with some freaking music. I don’t get emotionally attached to some singer that I know nothing about unlike you are. I simply buy a cd and if I don’t like it then I give a bad review. Just like a consumer report. And yes, I also think there are other bad music besides prince’s latest cds. So I buy various cds in case you think I only buy prince cds in your limited highly delusional mind. So stop making shit up and wake up Ms W!! If people would have respected my review by not insulting me, I would have never called them a nut fan or insult them. So I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I was just fighting back. The fact is when I gave a bad review, these nut fans couldn’t take that shit. They have to somehow find a way to kill that by insulting me. So I mentioned that nutty shit. So my comment was directed towards these nutty fans. So like Rambo said, “they drew the first blood, not me.” Do you still get it Ms w?? You obviously need to get some life. Your life appears highly dedicated to prince. So go ahead and listen to your prince cd while you can and make sure like you say, have balls to leave so called “prince world” if he sucks again you psycho.

You obviously don't know how to have a debate or counteract intelligently, especially when someone makes a valid point. I explained myself quite clear in my response to you where I said you didn't make any sense. You mentioned bitching as a consumer and Prince keep making music because the "nut fans" are buying his "shit" music. I clearly made the point that Prince is going to do the music he wants to regardless and there is always going to be people who like his current music, even though you hate it and to insult people who like his current music is immature. I don't know how else to make it clear. You're right. It is music so why are you calling people names because they buy music you don't like. If someone called you a name because you provided a negative opinion on Prince's music then that is wrong, but to call people nut fans and morons because they support Prince's music that you consider shit is just as wrong. You called me a nut fan I answered to you're claim by providing examples of my experience as a Prince fan, the fact that I drop him like a hot potato for 13 years, that I had the ability to move on completely. If I was a nut fan, I would not have been honest with myself and walk away from Prince world totally. Why would you call my 13 year absence from Prince "drama". Do you even know the meaning of the word "drama". If I don't like the music a musician is making, then I simply stop listening to him, and move on to bigger and better things. How is that "drama"? If anything it shows that I know how to have a life and spend time enjoying the music that moves me rather than spend time bitching on messageboards.--you call that having a life? Seems to me that YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE. and what is there not to understand how someone can come back after 13 years. If it wasn't for the success of the Musicology tour, from reading the overwhelming positive responses about the shows, i would probably still be missing in action. But I became curious again and started downloading here and there and discovered that I actually loved SOME of his new stuff. I discovered how much he has evolved since 1991. Even with some of his old music, the arragenments of how they are played during live shows are so different and even much better now. So I can enjoy some of his new stuff and enjoy the life he has given some of his old stuff. I guess you're not mature enough to understand. I guess your level of thinking is that once you leave a musician, it should be like...forever. How childish is that? You called me a nut fan, when clearly on this messageboard there is clear evidence of me expressing the tracks I like AND very much dislike. So you're claim that I buy ALL of Prince's release is wrong. oh and thanks for the advice in your last sentence. i've done it before and I'll do it again if that time comes.
