Prince "Hits" (or popular songs) that you're indifferent about

Not that I dislike these songs, but the excitement for me just doesn't match their popularity. They wouldn't make my custom "Greatest Hits" collection.

Kiss - this one much more than the others. It never grew one me. The Mazarati version is better.

most of them.

1999 - yawn
LRC - i kinda like the 12" version. i always liked the video more than the song.
when doves cry - loved it at first, burnt out on it now
let's go crazy - still love the extended version, loathe it live
cream - YAWN
most beautiful girl in the world - YAWN, though the fast mix makes me kinda happy

of course, if they hadn't been played into the ground who knows...i might still be into 'em. shrug

I got over the hits a long time ago. Only one or two of 'em I haven't really ever tired of.

WDC can still move me to tears if im in the right (or should i say wrong) state of mind. On the full length version that scream he does is just saturated in torment, pain and anguish. Maybe they are played out - they're the hits - thats what there about for all artists. However, their greatness as far as ssongwriting, originality and musicianship can never be questioned.

In the right setting they can be great still. For instance, At the superbowl i loved that little blast of 1999 that the marching band did, it gave me butterflies - then again the whole thing did. It was the hits but the arena was different, it wasnt some crap dj spinning kiss at club or a radio station playing his most comercial records to death. It was a celebration of the things that brought most fans here today - the hits!

For me, it's not even that I'm "over them" because of overplay. The songs I listed never did it for me, even right when they were released.

i know i might get shit for this, but I was never THAT impressed by the studio version of "Purple Rain". Live, it's amazing. But the studio version is kinda overrated.

Dont like "Cream" too much. It's so stale and boring.

"Badance", save for that AMAZING guitar solo, sucks

Everything else is good in my book!

Pretty much all of the singles on Purple Rain - I've simply burned the album out in its entirety.

Cream is a snoozer.
Batdance is "meh" aside from the guitar solo.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

Have never been able to get into "U Got The Look". It always justs sounds like Prince-by-numbers to me.

All of his other "hits" I've managed to love at some stage.

Cream
U Got the Look
(I have to admit I was a bit disappointed that both of these were included in the 3121 show I was at- so many songs I would have rather heard).
Lolita seems pretty popular around here -although not radio like the above- but I could do without that one too.
Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

All these songs I gave about a 5 outta 10 on first listen, and it's just never changed.

Every other single still holds a little somethin' special for me though, even after all this time. smile

SoulAlive

"Take Me With U"---I was pissed when they chose this as the fifth and final single from 'Purple Rain'.It's not a bad song, just very ordinary.
"Raspberry Beret"

also, the song "1999" is one of my favorite Prince songs, but now that the year 1999 has come and gone, the song just doesn't do it for me anymore boxed I actually feel kinda silly listening to it now, lol.

Come on how can anyone hate Raspberry Beret?Even if you don't like the song the cute cloud outfit he wore in the video more than makes up for that.

from day one this song has done nothing for me.

I can say that most other of his hits I have enjoyed to varying degrees.

That whole video with the long train station thing pisses me off too. pissed

well at least the lyrics to cream were somewhat interesting, it was like he was talking to himself, hyping himself up with positive talk, interesting in that way but a very average pop song. I liked the train thingy because i wondered if it was in seattle, i could swear someone says "tacoma" on there, so it must have been somewhere around here. Also, nobody ever told him he looked like a fucking fool with that beard.

If I don't hear most of the songs listed on this thread for a couple of years...when I finally hear them again, it becomes exciting. Except for those noted above and throw in Most Beautiful Girl in the World to make it an even number.

I never saw what was so damn great about "Little Red Corvette" except for the 12 Inch version. "Lady Cab Driver" definately should have been the second single from the "1999" album.
