Partyman video

When I first got hooked onto Prince it was through the Batman album. I was a big comic book fan and naturally bought the album because of the association with the film that was out at the time. I never was interested in Prince up until then, I always thought he was, quoting Prince himself, the "skinny motherf*cker with the high voice".

When I saw the video for Partyman I was completely blown away! It was only a 2-minute clip shown on the UK show "Top of The Pops" but from that moment on I knew this was the funkiest guy in music! The video is a pure delight, it's his best one I reckon. The way he moves, dances. jumps (even his hand-signals) show just how much kick-ass talent and confidence he has. This is one excellent and completely overlooked video and pop song. Hell it wasn't even on his 3-CD Greatest Hits!? Crazy...

So tell me, what do other orgers think about it?

LOVE partyman. and you're right, the video is too slammin'.

i really like the extended version of this track (purple party mix or sumthin' like that?) where he goes "hey baby, whatcha smokin'?" and the girl says "blow" and he goes "hey, let me light that" and then you hear like a flamethrower and she goes "bastard, look what you did to my hair?" and he laughs that freaking DELECTABLY DEMONIC laugh at the end?

ha HAAA ha haaa haaa haaa...

wink

so yeah, i dig this track MUCH.

Damn, I must hear this extended version but I can't find it anywhere. Love the clip and I also love the way they use the song in the movie - it's the best scene. I think the whole Batman album (even though it sold well) is underated by most of the orgers. I think it's close to his best behind 1999, Lovesexy & TRC. How cool would Partyman on ONA Live?

I don't know if it has or not, but I've never heard it being played live.

Even though it's part of the "soundtrack" of the Batman film, Prince has never intergrated any of the batman album into a live show. Maybe it's a contractual thing, who knows.

Actually, on the Nude Tour, Prince, integrated Batman into the show, complete with the batsignal as a backdrop. Right now, I forget which song(s) he sings from it, but it's on tape at home. I think I'll go home and play it now!

He did The Future, Batdance and Partyman. In '95/'96 he also played Vicki Waiting, and Scandalous as part of a medley in '97/'98.
