I'm not getting on you BluePrince or being all "collector elitist", but it's sad that you have to find or discover this stuff on Kazaa or WinMX.

I'm so, so glad the internet wasn't around (in this form anyway) back when I found these tapes.

That made it all exciting. The undergroundness of it all. That you actually had to hunt around for the stuff in small record stores, or through friends and other fans...

Oh well, you'll dig it when you find it.

It's funny the same could be said for the fact that you saw it on tape and not live. And same for the fact that your conversating through your keyboard over the web instead of sitting in a room with the person your talking to.

Besides alot of underground record stores are out of biz and certainly don't stock Prince stuff like I'm sure they did when you found your vhs tape. P.S. that tape is disolving as we speak you better download the digital version while you can before we all start using telepathy.

Can I pleae have some of that LSD or crack yall are partaking in? It must be some good shit because Prince is NOT in top, nor rare form in this performance. It shows him being under the influence and quite unsure of himself and basically blowing it..impromptu or not, he came off very very badly. Plus knocking down the lightpost on people, and the capper..he took off his jacket and left without it, but James picked it up and went to the edge of the stage to give it back to Prince as if sayin "Hey man! U left yo jacket up heah! Come get this shit". All of these embarassing shenanegins is what makes this performance surreal and a classic.

I AGREE WITH U RDHULL 200%!! nod nod nod
Whoever says that this was an exciting Prince performance must seriously be in denial that even PRINCE CAN FUCK UP SERIOUSLY while performing!!

I am the ULTIMATE PRINCE LOVER & I even I have 2 admit that in that performance, My Man was struggling BIG TIME...and MJ got over him THAT ONE TIME. (MJ brick)

COME ON PEOPLE>>>cut it out! U know Prince looked ridiculous up there and personally I have a hard time looking at that massacre of a performance! disbelief

It brings tears 2 my eyes...but anyone who is a Prince footage collector MUST have this on tape or whatever because this is not something he does on the regular!dead

You making our point. It was a classic. When's the last time you ever heard of Prince screwing up on stage. He's a very disiplined person in public. It was a real treat to see him unsure. And I don't care what you say. He took over and gave a glimps of the rare talent he is. He was unpolished but still commanded the stage. Remember the bad boy thing was his thing back then.

He aint commanded shit in that performance...he didnt even do justice to the guitar licks that well..he did some scream whine thing acting like he had to take a shit while trying to chew gum at the same time. He was obvioulsy inebriated."He took over and gave a glimpse of the rare talent..."..bwhahahahaah. Please...Please...can I have some of what you are shooting up , snorting or smoking? Please..I need a head change right about now.

You know this is why I never report on interesting stuff on the .org. I agreed with you that he wasn't on point, he was raw, shy, caught off gaurd, intimidated...but you still insist on talking down to me with the insulting drug talk. Why? I have an opinion and just posted it to incourage meaningful conversation. Not insults. As to the 'command shit' comment.

What the hell is your problem? So I dont act like a warm fucking fuzzy in my reply etc and bring up drug references for humor...are u that offended? Jesus, its all in fun, what the fuck? I wasnt talking down to you I was stating my bloated opinion..thats usually how I do it. I dont even know who I responded to--I responded mainly to the content.

Good or bad he did. When he gestured on the two, the crowd AND THE BAND took his lead (Ugggh, his command). If he didn't COMMAND attention, they would have never responded. Clearly not his best, but since I've never heard of you on stage doing better I must give it some merit, especially considering the undeniable talent he has grown into.

Responsible reply invited.

He sucked onstage and its all on video--thats what I like about it...the vintgeness of it and ythe disaster that it was. I mean it is awesome to see this. He didnt command anyuting though..really he didint. The band kept playing the same shit and all Prince did was try and do some geetar licks. He couldnt even sing...he screamed weakly as well...its funny! And youmay have seen me onstage but you just dont know its me. Plus ANYONE could have done what Prince did in that performance...taking off his coat, struming th e geetar in basic chords and doing a drunk dramatic Im In Pain scream...shit..thats a regualr saturday night form me. Ill film it and send it to u.

I finally tracked this down on winmx and had a blast watching it! I didn't cringe at all...i just thought what an amazing piece of footage: MJ when he was black, Prince when he was still young and still drinking and doing whatever else he did!!!

Great stuff...a real fan moment watching this!!

I was going to say the same thing. Prince WAS clearly either a. drunk or b. high, or c. both in this tape...and he damned near KILLED somebody when he slid off the stage and knocked a light pole over...but overrall, it was amusing to watch.

I downloaded a 5minute (18520kb) wmv file with time running on it (from 39min.-44min.) Anyway, here's what the Godfather himself said about it. Chapter 40 of his autobiography:

"A lot of the younger performers came to see me, too. During a show I did at the Beverly Theater in Los Angeles with B.B.King, Michael Jackson and Prince both came by. Michael sang "Man's World" and sounded fantastic. When we broke into "There Was a Time," it blew his mind. He sang and danced, and the place went wild. Prince played some guitar, but I think he was a little nervous because Michael fit into my thing a little better since Michael had been studying me for years. But later on Prince studied, and he got into it real good. When I was in California later, he came to a show and lay on the floor backstage and watched my feet. Afterward, he asked me if I had roller skates on my shoes." - "JAMES BROWN", James Brown with Bruce Tucker, Thunder's Mouth Press, New York, 1986.

Is that the same show?

Michael left right after he'd blown everyone away.I kinda get the feeling MJ wanted to embarrase Prince by suggesting to JB Prince get on stage.frankly it's a good job Michael went on first, if it had been Prince first it could have got REAL embarrasing.(heck it was bad enough)

Balls or not 1-0 MJ.

Here's my thing...
Not to be getting anything started but I am sooo tired of hearing when this video was shot Michael was black. GET OVER IT!!! Yeah he's had surgery, we know. Guess what... I haven't seen the video but if it was before Purple Rain, Prince was black too. Afro and the whole she-bang. Ya'll talk about MJ like you can't talk about Prince for days. If the performance sucked don't blame Michael.

Let me bring this up...I've seen threads asking if Prince has had plastic surgery. Don't insult Michael because Purple Rain didn't outsell Thriller. Thank you and have a nice day.

hey people

just to clear a few things up...

MJ and Prince were never on the same stage at the same time, and this video proves, it,. I am so sick of this tape being sold as MJ AND PRINCE together on stage !!!

also the light pole could hardly kill anyone since it is so obviously made of cardboard ...
you think it would have fallen that easily if it wes concrete or steel ? yeah right...its just c cheap shitty stage prop... KILL SOMEONE ? I doubt if it fell on you, you wouldn't even notice,...

I agree..he didnt expect to have to get up and perform etc..especially after drankin etc. I wasnt being harsh--I was just interpreting the performance from how others were saying "he was a force to be reconed with". I know he could have done better if circumstances were different, Im jus sayin' on this night...

Way funny!

I just saw it for the first time from the download.

If Prince did any substance abuse before, I think that was the night he decided to quit.

He's only mentioned two heros that I've heard, Larry Graham and James Brown.

I'm sure he felt pretty silly after that, in front of his hero and all. That's probably when he got serious about his stage show.

I bet he and Chic took MJ out back and slapped his face. Thus the following Plastic surgeries!

Oh the calamity!

Sorry friend, this video was from 1983---check out the outfit, same one he wore during the '83' first avenue gig with Wendy. He was 25 that summer before purple rain came out.

Yup. Exactly one month after the 3 August benefit gig at First Avenue. That suit must have stunk by then!
