Who doesn't like Under the Cherry Moon?

I'm 35, and this is the "MOST WATCHED" movie of my life... followed closely by Purple Rain, and then Eddie Murphy's Boomerang... and then Bruce Willis' Die Hard.

I was just watching it again... for maybe the 60th time (I swear)... and the "wrecka stow" part came on.

This movie is such a CLASSIC! I was chatting with a "former" Prince fan of mine (his level of interest has tailed off quite abit since after Lovesexy) while I was watching it... and started posting some of Christopher and Tricky's lines... and we couldn't stop LOL'ing and ROFL'ing... and he hasn't been a hardcore fan since '89... but he remembered it all!

Is there anyone who DOESN'T like UTCM? If not, why?

Thanks... but I'm looking for NEGATIVES.

Just curious. The critics hated it. I'm wondering if there are any Prince fans that seriously didn't like it... and why not.

ALSO... one other site that I LOVE to visit is http://www.moviemistakes.com. UCTM wasn't reviewed for this site, but did anyone notice any mistakes?

it was a cheesy movie full of inside jokes and prince's idiosynchracies, which didn't translate coherently to a decent movie, even among a lot of his fans.

HOWEVER,

i think the film was beautifully shot, the locations and costumes are gorgeous, and if you quit trying to judge it as a "good piece of film", it's just fun to veg out to and to giggle at for an hour and a half.

it's a total vanity piece, but i enjoy the film despite itself.

Anx pretty much nailed it - I myself just found it extremely tedious, and as much as I love Prince, this film was a tough sell for me to even finish. I appreciate its goofiness and artiness, but I couldn't muster any enthusiasm for it.

I did, however, like the "Mountains" clip at the end.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

I watched this film expecting it to be an absolute pile of trash, so consequentally I was pleasantly surprised. Yeah, it was pap, but enjoyable pap.

And not only is Kristin Scott Thomas a beautiful lady and a great actress, Emmanuelle Sallet's wardrobe is fantastic!

Put it this way - it was a whole lot better than Dirty Dancing!

i agree! i think dirty dancing is BORING.

i know people love it, but it just drains the energy out of me to have to look at it for five minutes. it is my kryptonite. lol

I was never expecting it to have a strong plot, script or cast (and I was right!) but what really got me was that the direction, editing and continuity was just so sloppy. Even to the point where there were boom mics popping in and out of shot.

I wanted to write to the studios and ask for my 91 minutes back. By no means is it the worst film ever made, not by a long shot, but how come it doesn't get slated in the same way UTCM does?

I went to see it opening night "backinthaday" with a group of friends- most of them NOT fans then. One of them, halfway thru the movie, grabbed me around the neck from the row behind and yelled, "gimme the keys NOW!" Everyone around us started laughing. I remember thinking, "Yeah, this kinda sucks" but acting really indignant about his behavior.
I own it on VHS, but have never played it- it was just for the collection. the 2nd time I ever saw the movie was last week on TV-One. disbelief

Prince and Jerome both overacted, the jokes weren't that funny, and that dying scene at the end- confused
I like the soundtrack. Prince looks great. The movie? No.

(and I forgot how much I hated Mary's nude drum "thing" eek )

I thought UTCM was a great movie. Jerome was good but I wish Morris wouldve been the movie instead. Morris stood out the most in PR and GB. But I heard at the time most people didnt like the UTCM because they were still spring on Pruple Rain and wanted a sequel...and we see how the sequel turned out.

The movie would have been better in colour. It is a bit too pretentious for my liking. It would have also had a wider appeal and have been more commercially successful, had it have been in colour. Having said that I think Prince's acting was pretty good. Not a fan of Kristen Scott Thomas though. Purple Rain is much better.

I worked at a 2-screen movie theater when this came out. I was the usher and would go to clean up after the movie would end. I loved to clean up the theater due to the closing credits/Mountains song. I remember being the only one I knew who really got into it. Sometimes I wonder if that movie had not played at my theater, if I would have ever liked Prince. This is the only positive stuff I can say about the movie though.

I like the movie. But it was more of a comedy to me. I can't take it serious. The "Wreck A Stow" scene was hilarious. The part where Prince was feeling up Kristin's mom in the dark bedroom thinking it was her, was funny. And when Prince and Jerome let the ladder drop on the lawn while running away while Jerome was laughing at Prince had me in stitches. But the part that gets me everytime is the death scene. Jerome looked so silly when he was crying. "Please GOD" "Not HIM!". That part cracks me up!! lol

Once you buy A DVD,
you sorta feel committed to watch it.

I learned this the hard way.
