Nobody here will probably admit it, but nearly everyone back in the day thought Prince was pretty weird before his big breathroughs. I remember thinking he was crazy and gay, but that his music was incredible. Then, at 1999 and Purple Rain he became my hero.

I def. DIDNT like prince at all when i was younger. I just knew my mom was a fan and always wondered why!I always thought he was gay, which freaked me out at the time. One day was on the computer and just popped in the SOTT cd and i thought it was ok[ i was about 12]. Listened to it every now and then, and recently i just really got into him, like 2 yrs ago. When my family went on a road trip and my mom put in one of his greatest hits cd and i never went bak! Now i have way too many prince songs on my ipod and all my friends look at me like "wth" and i pay them no mind. Now i see y my mom luvs this guy. "When u see me wake a wish"

cool topic, thanks.
i was "shocked & rocked" by his performance of Nikki in PR during its original film release and had to walk out of the theatre to gather myself together. as an art student, i realized that is what art is really about ~ the ability to make an audience "feel something," even (seemingly) negative. but in a VERY SHORT TIME i felt compelled to go buy the soundtrack and listened to it daily for the next few YEARS... i was already a fan from Little Red Corvette, but PR sealed the deal for me thanks, P

I only really knew 1999 when I was younger, thought it was catchy. But I remember Raspberry Beret annoying me. My mom likes it so she'd turn it up loud when it came on the radio I'd heard When Doves Cry a few times and liked it. I actually really disliked Black Sweat when I first heard it too. Then I listened to Purple Rain and it was all over

I liked Soft & Wet. Didn't know who it was at the time. Then saw Prince open the Rick James tour. I was in love, and have been ever since. I never thought he was weird. Because I was like him. I loved the way he looked, and the way he didn't give a damn what anyone thought about how he looked.
I've always been open minded. Even though I was a Jehovah's Witness for 20 or so years. Now that's weird! I even understand why he became one. I forgive him. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack
