36 years old here, and you couldn't be further from the truth... I thnk there are "classics" on each and every album/CD he releases. Signifigance, as you say, is in the eye of the beholder. Those trapped in the past are blind to the relevance of the present... Strike [Edited 2/12/07 21:12pm]

i'm a bit baffled how a diehard fan wouldn't have least included Lovesexy in the above statement -- no matter tho since you also overlook ![]()

48 and it's like I can't relate. Lost track of him in the 90's cause I was busing being a mom, found him again at TRC, loved it, been hooked every since. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed is my favorite right now and some many others from SOTT to now. Inside of Me, I am Free, Free to be Me.

Having been along for the ride since 82, I'd say watching him evolve into what he is now and what is to be next is the best. There are so many songs and albums since SOTT that I really enjoy to this day. So to say since SOTT nothing significant has been released would be a false statement to me. TRC is a fantastic piece o' work
Come I really like , and Lovesexy I think stacks up too, it's a fun record. Emancapation Disc III has some winners, as does C&D, Black and Gold. He's not as important now but it's still hard to lose relevance when someone produces a Record like SOTT... you can't be that on top of your game and lose merit/class/chops whatever. and I forgot to watch the Superbowl! must be old age

38 and been a fan since 82. P is still churning out significant music I love. I don't love everything... but the overall body of work is what has kept me a fan over the years... and will continue to do so.

37 years old and been a fan since 1999 (the album). As much as I love the new stuff, I dont get the same buzz I used to get back in the day. PurpleRain, SOTT knocked me for 6. Nothing since has come close.
Personally I think its me getting older as well as Prince losing a little bit of magic.

I'm 37, and think The Rainbow Childen is as good as anything he has ever done...
I also agree with ThirdStrike; there's been great songs on every release; some people will choose to stay in the heyday. I like to think about it this way: If all I had were recordings made after SOTT, I would still listen to Prince as much as any other artist.

Our age group I think is hard to satisfy, as we were fan in the so-called heydays; we saw genius unfold and have been hard to please ever since.
Also, in my case, my musical taste has grown to include more genius artists that do deliver the standard of quality I came to expect from Prince. Then again, these artists are often younger and still amazed by the power of music, where as Prince seems a bit tired of it all; having spread his musical vision all over the spectrum, losing a concise picture over the whole. Jumping from one experiment in music to another, having the world lose the plot of what he stands for. He now, of course, seems to be on a defensive strike to help remember the world of his genius by being a commercial whore again. It is so funny, that a man that became GREAT by doing his OWN thing, is now pimping mainstream by rehashing his old stuff and covers of others people's stuff. I mean, I still adore his voice, would listen to anything he puts out, even if it was just him reading the news, but daaaamn, the days that there were tracks that I could not stop playing and playing or tracks that just blew me away and had the power to stretch time for me seem long gone. I sometimes have the idea we need to take everything away from him; his studio, his security, to push him into unknown territory again and help him make his music cutting edge again.

Everything changed with The Rainbow Children.
Even his old stuff like The Cross or Lovesexy doesn't sound the same since. It's difficult to enjoy songs like "I Know" - knowing this happy man became a JW. Musicology was an o.k. album, songs like "The Word" or "Get On The Boat" leave a bad taste - because I'm NOT flying on the wings of the new translation.

I am not saying he did not do anything I did not like after SOOT, btw; some of his projects were great. I love The Gold Experience, I still think he should release a 3cd set of his live stuff from those days.
And on every mediocre album there has been something of brilliance; The One on NPS, Calhoun Square on Crystal Ball; a project that, in my eyes, could have had some more vision added to it. But again, that is all me, nothing to do with Prince. I really love the fun he seems to be having the last few years and his albums are becoming real albums again, not some shit he has lying around thrown together. While I write that, I seem to remember that SOTT is just that; stuff he had lying around. So with being a Prince fan comes this really thin line of what you like and don't like, which is highly personal. If there is one thing I would love to see happen to Prince, is that he would be open enough to allow other genius people to come aboard and give him an artistic kick in the ass. Normally he surrounds himself with blank canvasses, mostly women, that he can paint on. I would love to see him in other people's colours; let him be produced by bleeding Rick Rubin or Björk. Rick Rubin would make him ROCK again and Björk would make them beats flow again. Hehehe, can you imagine Prince obsessin' over computer beats with Björk? Both bend over a synth, them heads bobbin' to the beat they are creating? And I can just imagine what Björk would get outaPrince lyrically. I can hear them shout to eachother in the studio, then have a make-up session, where they would drown in insence and sweet words. Purrrrr. I like dreams...

I am 35 and have been a fan since Controversy. Not knowing what Prince would do next is what keeps me listening. I know whatever he does he will do it well.
Also, being black, I like that he's went more heavily in the funk, R&B and soul direction than he did in the earlier years.

I'm 44. Been enjoying Prince since the first album right though the last one. Sure I don't get as intoxicated by the music as I did when I was younger, but that has as much to do with me as it does him. Prince's 30 yr career has long since exceeded my expectations. For Prince to release something as fresh as 3121 30 years into his career is astounding to me. And it is not like he is an artist that pops in with an album every 5 years are something. No almost every year sometimes multiple releases and multiple disks. That's truly crazy. Another thing is Prince is not Johnny Cash lol. His music is not conventional. The title track 3121 is as out there as anything he has ever done.

I'm still digging him seriously at 38. My family and friends are amazed. funny thing is, they are digging him too now. LoL
Anywho, I can find some songs that I love on ALL the albums. They don't have to be clear for me (where I am love with every single song on the Album). I think musicology was hot. and Lovesexy!!!!! Seriously, I can find songs on every single album that are my favorites. Yes,that includes 3121. I just love music (any kinda music) In this bed eye scream

36 and still digging Prince as hard as day one. Granted some albums are better than others and his 80's stuff is the best there is, but I alway find something special in every Prince album. __________________________________________________

35 and loving TRC and 3121. Didn't care too much about Emancipation and Musicology. I have yet to get the Crystal Ball and Gold Album.

i'm *almost* 35.. and I will say this: I don't think Prince has put out an album to rival SOTT or Lovesexy, and his post-80's work hasn't had the same magic as what he released in the 80's.
That being said: he still keeps putting out stellar music. I really liked both 3121 and Musicology, and there were some amazing things in the 90's. "Come" has aged particularly well, IMHO.

My dad's a little over the age of 50, but he introduced me to Prince when he was around 50. I'll have to ask him what he thinks about him one of these days. All I know is that he thought he was so talented that watching the 2nd half of "Purple Rain" would be worth it even I didn't see the first half.
I'm not sure about my mom either. In both cases, I'll have to ask. Boy, how am I going to explain to them that Prince has been on my mind since his SuperBowl performance... no, even before that. I was so concerned with whether or not I'd get to see his performance that I think I had dreams about trying to get tickets for one of his shows. Maybe the next time we see "Purple Rain" together, I'll have a better answer for the question, but I'm sure they both have interesting things to say about our Prince. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I'm 39 and I love Prince more now than when I was younger. I watch these young "artists" and... ![]() I once told a student who called me "pathetic" for still going to Prince concerts that what I find pathetic is that the "one-hit wonder" that he's listening to now won't be around in 25 years to jam to like I jam to my favorite artist. ![]() I appreciate how Prince has matured as I have. Frivolity and the pop sounds of the 80s are no longer relevant in my life- his search for love and spirtuality are, because that is what I am also seeking. ![]() "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I'm over 50 and Prince is better now than he's been in a while. I remember when he did his first concert in Philadelphia it was with Rick James and Teena Marie and he was scared to death! ![]()
