Message for the gay men in here? Prince is straight, but in touch with his 'feminine' site

I mean, why do you keep 'claiming' Prince as a gay-idol?

Because he is definitely not.

Prince is very obviously a heterosexual man not affraid of his 'feminine' aspects. That doesn't make him homosexual or 'gay' even.

Homosexual men on the org often seem to 'claim' Prince, while there is no reason for that. You might wish you were as adventorous and openminded as him, when the only thing you can do is praise superficial 'nobodies' like Kylie Minogue and Liza Minelli.

As a heterosexual man i have always very much understand what Prince is doing, and trying to achieve, he is 'mirroring': a straight guy brave enough to admit heterosexual men also long for intimacy, sensuality and melting together deep inside.

I know, a lot of gay men will laugh about this, and deny it, but its you who are wrong, claiming him, while Prince is on of the most honest heterosexual people on this globe....

Prince is not an icon in the gay community. It's by freak accident that there are gay fans lol Personally I never looked to him as a gay hero, but he was a hero to me nonetheless, especially in regards to him being in touch with his feminine side and not being afraid to embrace it. It is one of the things that gave me so much courage to be the chick I really am nod

As for the rest of your post, sounds like you have real issues lol

Nope, no issues here..

Just trying to take things a bit further then 'straight' and 'gay'

As i said, Prince is an openminded straight guy, i dont see the use of gay people embracing him as an 'icon', while he is way more brave then that.....

Why are you telling gays they are wrong? And why are you so quick to defend the masculinity of one of the biggest flamers on the planet? lol

For the record, I am as brave as Prince:

And Madonna doesn't even rank as one of my all time top favorite artists. My faves are PJ Harvey, Me'Shell N'Degeocello, Tricky, Bjork. Not very fagolized there lol

As Supa said, Prince is far from an idol in the gay community. Most gay men that I know can't stand him. They do think he's a closet queen though but they just don't like his music.

Prince is very obviously a heterosexual man not affraid of his 'feminine' aspects. That doesn't make him homosexual or 'gay' even.

It doesn't make him straight either. As I have told people before, I can accept the fact that it's possible for him to be a very together and in touch with himself straight man but can you accept the fact that it's also possible for him to be either a closeted gay man or even a gay man in denial to himself? Both are possible and only he knows.

Homosexual men on the org often seem to 'claim' Prince, while there is no reason for that. You might wish you were as adventorous and openminded as him, when the only thing you can do is praise superficial 'nobodies' like Kylie Minogue and Liza Minelli.

Oh you really got me fucked up. I wouldn't be caught dead listening to no weak shit like that. And if you have read many of my posts, I am that one that is constantly calling the "Parade" album the weakest Prince album of the 1980s because it has classical shit on it. I don't like weak nerdy shit of any kind. Just like straight people, gay people come in all kinds with various tastes.

As a heterosexual man i have always very much understand what Prince is doing, and trying to achieve, he is 'mirroring': a straight guy brave enough to admit heterosexual men also long for intimacy, sensuality and melting together deep inside.

what the hell is all this nonsense crap?!? lol

to a lot of gay women, neil diamond is a lesbian icon. FACT

i don't know why. i really don't care. if they're having fun and neil diamond is getting record sales from it, what's it matter?

i don't think prince is considered a gay icon. i really don't. i think he has a big gay following, but he has all kinds of diverse demographics in his fanbase. get used to it.

if this thread isn't just a bunch of trolling bullshittery, the person who started it really needs to fine-tune his worldview or at least be quiet about things he knows little about.

I like some of the album but the mere fact that there is classical shit on there period just pisses me the fuck off because, yeah, many straight people see Prince as gay and classical music is one of the weak stereotypes they like to place on us. In the early 1980s, Prince had a gay appearance but broke every single gay stereotype with his hard ass funk/rock. "Parade" kinda just shot all that down. lol

As for being stereotyped, you notice the person that started this thread even thinks we all like Liza Minelli. My favorites are hard funk, mostly male and mostly groups, like.....Prince, Rick James, The Barkays, Cameo, Roger and Zapp, Lakeside, The Isley Brothers, etc. I hate sissy shit like Shitney Ass Houston, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Freddie Jackson, Mikki Howard, etc.

i love me some motorhead and i will gladly stand directly in front of thurston moore at a sonic youth show and fam out to the feedback until my ears bleed, but i have absolutely ZERO problem with throwing some donna summer on the stereo and queening the hell out. fuck people's preconceived notions. i don't live my life by other people's quaint little binary reality, and i won't be limited by it either. :snap:

Yeah, those are OK.

But you know what, back in the 1980s when I was in the closet and living in denial to myself, even I couldn't accept the fact that there was any way, shape, or form that there was any slight possibility that Prince could be gay and in denial just like I was....and I was very defensive about it too. Hmmmmm..... lol

Give it a rest, Riverpoet.

I don't know what alternate reality you live in, but I don't see any gay men, here or elsewhere claiming Prince as theirs or saying he's gay. This has already been covered, so stop being a knee-jerk reactionary twat. If you had bothered to actually read what was said in the other thread instead of making half-cracked accusations, you'd know that.

o rly? then why start a thread with a statement like the one that's up there in the first place? that, and given your past commentary about those who are gay...i call bullshit on your "no issues" declaration.

and i'm thinking that you didn't get the memo, riverpoet: most gay folks couldn't really care less which way the brotha swings. the only thing those of us who are fans do care about is the music and, for a good portion of the gay fanbase, how said music helped us deal with being different while coming up/out.

The declaration of a 'gay idol/icon' usually seems to come from places outside the gay community. It's usually str8 people who label a famous person as a 'gay idol' because someone notices that a given performer has a lot of fans who happen to be gay. It's not as if there is a GBLT Draft every year to choose the next 'gay icon' rookie-of-the-year.

I don't believe Prince is at all a 'gay idol' and has not yet been labeled as such by media ilk. Even if he were,I don't think it implies anything about his own sexual preferences. Take Madonna for example. She does have this label, but she is not homosexual.

Riverpoet, are you concerned that if Prince is thought of as gay or a 'gay idol' and you are a fan you also will be thought of as such by your friends and family? Is that the motivation for your post? I can only speak from personal experience. Prince and Madonna are my all time favorite musical performers. Does that say something about my sexuality? Probably, but you know what? I don't care. I'm going to like the kind of music I am going to like. You should also smile

I'll repeat what someone else here already said. I'm gay, and Prince is my hero. However, I think he's straight. Has he ever had sex with another man? I speculate. We all know how rock stars are... wink I've been with a chick or two in my time, but was just experimenting.I wouldn't put it past any straight man to experiment by busting the bootie once or twice in his life, yet still consider themselves straight.
tonk (I've been wondering how I was gonna use this emoticon in a post since I've seen it!!!)

However, he's been married twice. I don't know any gay men stupid enough to do it TWICE (Bet somebody raises Hell about THAT comment!).

Why is Prince considered open-minded? Maybe during the start of his career... but he seems to take very "defined" views...

As far as being a gay icon, he didn't seem too happy about Wendy and Lisa's relationship...

All he's done is really celebrate heterosexuality... The world and the media does this all the time...

Heh.

WHO CARES? First of all, no one in the gay scene claims dibs to Prince or ever did.

Most gays I know have a SPLENDID taste in music, even if SOME of us indeed do like Streisand/(Minelli?? GARLAND!)/Madonna/Kylie. Why is it that gay people, who in MY opinion transcend the closeted views you seem to have about gays, have to suffer through tedious prejudice?

Is it the same prejudice that makes STRAIGHT people claim that Prince IS gay, cuz he wears high heels and assless pants? And wears make-up, jeez.
He must be gay! Cuz all gay guys wear make-up and wear assless pants.

LoL

I would love people to stretch their views a little and not make claims for a group they do not even belong to. Or pretend they are the given spokesperson for Straightsville.
