Do you remember...Prince @ Awards Shows?

Remember back in the day, when Prince would recieve an Award...rather it was a Grammy or MTV 'Moon Man' rolleyes he'd get up to the podium. The fans would be screaming soo loud...that he couldn't even give an exceptance speech...he'd just stand stand there and hold the award blushing...saying 'thank you' repetitiously. then finally after the audience silenced a lil, he'd say "Thank you" again and walk off of the stage.

He was soo loved back then, he still is... People only reacted that way for P and MJ...not many crowds do that for artists nowadays...

Just reminiscing... confuse

No need to "remember back in the day". Did you not see the clip of his acceptance speech for the award he received during the Yahoo Internet Life Pioneer Awards (1999,Internet Only single, for "The War")???

The crowd were loving it... even his reference to The Matrix went down a treat...

I'd really like to see the Minnesota Music Awards he performed at--I think '81-'85.

I will never forget the Brit Awards show he appeared at in 1985, eye think, and he was overshadowed by his burly bodyguard, Chick Huntsbury!! It looked totally bizaar!!!
It was talked about for a long time afterwards!!!
He also stood out like a sore thumb with what he was wearing!!
Because of that reaction, he said he would never return 2 England again!! Judgeing by how many times hes been back here since, eye think he changed his mind!!! LOL

Prince really got a lot of disproportionate stick for that night. Surprisingly, many biographers (and music mag columnists here in the UK) still insist on hanging on to that particular BPI Awards ceremony whenever they felt like crucifying Prince.

I actually don't think it was all that bad. Prince dressed more wildly than anybody else making all in attendance look very ordinary indeed, that pink feather boa made my mum reach for her smelling salts and I have Prince to thank for that!!!

A year later, however, the entire UK media and music industry were raving about the amazing Wembley 'Parade' shows, hah!

I can't remember what award show it was, but I remember
thinking how strange it was when his bodyguard went
with him to accept an award. I think it was The American
Music awards in 84 or 85

I remember the oscars, when he won his oscar for the score of Purple Rain and he had on that black cape. I was watching it over my mom's friends house and when she saw him dressed like that she was like shocked

I remember when he was awarded the 1995 AMA's award of achievement and Anita Baker presented it to him and the crowd gave him a standing ovation and were screaming so loud, all he could do was give this big grin, he was blushing and seemed really moved by it all. IMHO this was the longest exceptance speech that I had ever hear him give. I still have this on tape.

1990 or 89 American Music Awards. Where he wore the cards on his neck. Very interesting outfit. Had that bad beard growing. He was very happy and smiled like crazy. Gave a long but hard to hear speech.

1992 Soul Train award of some achievement. Was given to him by what's her name, the mulato girl from the Sexy MF video. Camera shot of here approaching Prince, no underwear, huge-beyond-J-Lo booty, amazing, Prince in green, Typhoon, shy, low voice, hard to hear as well.

The American Music Awards with Prince saying just "Thanks"..

was where I became only a prince fan!..

I saw that in 7th grade and I was hooked.. He was so interesting and funny how he would "act" stoned or have the bodyguard come up with him..

* If anyone has that on tape LOOK at how HIGH on Crack/Coke Vanity & Night Ranger is when they present the award to Prince & The Rev

wow you could blindfold them with dental floss

Prince was always fun to watch at the awards shows! But I have never seen a greater performance on an awards show than when Prince and the Revolution did "Baby I'm a Star"! He took over the show!!! For those who have seen it...there should be no doubt...that this man is untouchable!!

Can't remember many of the real old ones. The first thing I can remember is seeing him perform "Sign O The Times" at the MTV music awards. But I was too young to really care about the music that much back than.
The coolest acceptance speech tho was the one he pre-taped
that was shown at some award show [can't remember which]

He had taped a short rhyme over the beat of "My Medallion"
that went like this:

"I don't know,
why I win awards.
I can't lie,
I only know 2 chords...

I don't know,
but I'm over-joyed.
If I could just get signed,
instead of unemployed...

Thank U, just the same

Love U".

That award show was the Yahoo! Internet Life Awards on July 24 2000, hosted by John Leguizamo... Yup, I agree that it was funny as hell

Oh course I do. Here are some of my favorite LIL MAN moments on award shows.

***1985 American Music Awards - When he accepted his first award he simply said "thank you" and walked off the stage.Later on he performs "Purple Rain" and gave an amazing guitar solo.

***1985 Grammy Awards...Prince and Revolution performs "Baby I'm A Star". This performance and MJ's performance of "Man In The Mirror" in 1988 are to this day IMO the greatest performances in grammy awards history. Prince truly got off that night on stage and prove without a doubt that he's one of the greatest live performers ever. These lame lackluster by-the-script performances on award shows now-a-days doesn't come close to what Prince did on this night. He must have did at least 15 splits in a row during those series of splits. Classic performance!!!

***1985 Academy Awards- LIL MAN sports a long purple glittering like whatever that was he was wearing(LOL). When he won for best original musical score for a motion picture, you could tell he was happy. He said something to the effect of "winning this award is beyond my wildest dreams". One couldn't help but be truly happy for him.

***1995 VH-1 Fashion Award...I have to give it to LIL MAN that red versace suit with the red boots to match was tight. To me that's the best I've ever seen him dress and Mayte looked good enough to eat..my goodness. This was a no hold barred peformance of "P Control"

*** 1994 VH1 Honors...LIL MAN gave another rousing tour de force live performance. "Endorphmachine" was classic. I liked how he turned his guitar horizontally and pretended like he was blowing dust off of the guitar strings..CLASSIC. Again Mayte looked yummy and Michael B and the whole NPG band just kicked booty {plain and simple}!!!

My bad, the cape was purple and it was the 1990 AMA's not 1995. I also liked the Soul Train Awards Show her appeared on when Stevie Wonder presented him with a special award. I think he performed "Emancipation" on the show.

Prince didn't just say Thank You ever! He always Thanked God and had the best speeches about Life is Death without Adventure and Adventure only Comes to those who are Daring and Willing to Take Chances. Go Back and watch all those old clips and You will see for Yourselves. Ain't Nobody Baadd as Mr. P his Royal Badness. My Hero.
