Next album

My husband is getting his Master's in music right now. A fellow classmate of his supposedly has worked with the bassist who is on Prince's upcoming album. This classmate told my hubby that the new album is based on Afro-Cuban rhythms, hence the sound in "The Boat". This is all hear say now, but if it's true, I think that's awesome.

So, your husband doesn't own his masters??? (just kidding)
Seriously, that sounds pretty cool if it's true!

While the album may or may not lean toward one musical direction, you still have to expect diverse sounds...after all, this is a Prince album we're talking about. lol

Actually, this "Afro-Cuban" thing is what a lot of us were expecting for 3121. There were plenty of rumours c.2005 about him recording with latin musicians. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a project Prince was thinking of doing but gave up on it end the end.

Prince's current bassist is Josh Dunham.

Although he might play on some of the tracks, there would be no way for him to know the over-all concept of the album, since Prince chops and changes the tracklisting as he records, and even abandons whole recorded songs. There's just no way of telling what you're gonna get. After 'Te Amo' came out everybody thought the album was going to be latin-jazz soul but Prince at the original press conference made a point that it wasn't reflective of the whole album, and it wasn't.
