ESPN Article about Prince, His Possible Hip Replacement, and the Super Bowl

http://sports.espn.go.com...nes/070131

This is not an absurd Imago thread. The title of the article is "No Longer a Citizen of Funkytown"... neutral

This may sound terrible, but I LAUGHED through that whole article! The analysis of the relationship between hips and the funk had me almost in tears! lol This article is so overly dramatic, it's got to be a satire. I can't believe they managed to write so much about it.

Not to mention the man hasn't done a split in concert since what ... that Rave DVD? And even before that he had back off doing splits and a lot of over the top dancing. Clearly whoever wrote this hasn't seen him perform since 1992 or so. falloff

Great article! It's good to see P getting some attention outside of the normal "circles" as a result of this SB Halftime performance...even if it's silly!! wink

Funk? One can sweat while briskly walking, right? You don't have to run like Carl Lewis to create a pungent odor...

Don't sweat it P! You're still as FUNKY as that crackhead chick I saw on "Intervention" living in her grandma's dirty ass guest house with the Sharpie drawn eyebrows running around her neighborhood naked!!! wacky

OK, maybe a bit extreme, but...you know what I mean...

Kind of bonkers basing an entire article on something which was never proved to be any more than an oft-repeated rumour. The basis of the article seems to be whether Prince can still perform as well at the Superbowl if he has had an operation - completely ignoring the fact he has performed regularly recently with no problems entertaining his fans.

Imago has never been to any invasion. I think you have him confused with Dook, who loves to flash the ball sack!

The article is pretty absurd, but at least the guy seems to be up on more recent Prince news/gossip.

And, no. This is not an Imago account. mad

My favorite part...

It's an even bigger deal considering the significance of the hips to the funk. Mark Anthony Neal, a professor of African and African-American studies at Duke University and one of the foremost authorities on black popular culture, says the hips are an essential part of the funk. "In a traditional sense, the word funk was about an odor -- an odor generated by intense physical movement," he says. "By the time J.B. and others were embracing the word to describe their music, it was generally accepted that one had to be seriously shaking their hips, if one was really going to get funky."

you know on the subject of this hip replacement thing....I have seen patients of hip replacements and incredibly evasive surgery, and you can notice a dramatic difference in their before and after gait, posture, and ability to just stand for long periods of time....If he did have hip replacement...and I seriously doubt it....he had one hell of a surgeon!

clapping
I TOTALLY agree with you. My uncle had a hip replacement a few weeks before I saw CNN reporting that Prince had this surgery done late in 2004. As the months went by and I witnessed my uncle's recovery, Prince was regularly photographed on the scene in LA clubs and performing. The whole time I was like, "Ain't no way in hell he had a hip replacement."

Two years later my uncle still walks with a severe limp but overall feels better than before. I saw Prince in concert last year in February, May, and December and he danced his ass off (not like back in da day, but still, not bad for someone almost 50!) especially New Year's Eve. So I severely doubt he had this done. And he seems to be back in the heels full time, although I do agree that they cannot be good for his health. smile
