Thinking about it, I personally think this is a case of Prince being pretty excited about what he's planning to do, so much so he couldn't help letting the cat out of the bag early. well....what if he's promoting something...other than the superbowl performance....an extra few thousand more viewers of the halftime show....could also mean an extra few thousand potential CD sales  "not a fan"  yeah...ok | |

I do hear what you're saying but I think it's safe to say the average howard stern fan is not a Prince fan, so there most certainly an untapped market there. I'm not average anything so....that leaves me out of both equations

Just heard it. One of his better covers. Although I don't see the point in combining the two songs. Do one or the other or both individually.
By the way, Stern and his cronies are all still asshats. I really don't see the appeal at all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

But there are plenty of stats out there in regard to who listens to Howard, who went along with him to satelite, etc. Primarily a male dominated audience between 18-30 or something along those lines. I'm sure it can be looked up. btw, there is no average Prince fan and I've never heard anyone say anything of the sort in 23+ years of being a hardcore fan. We are a quite diverse group. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Just like some would say the average 'metal' fan wouldn't be a Prince fan. Go to a site like metal sludge and you constantly see posts on those boards about Prince being a great guitar player. My take is Prince fans are all over the board in what they like, simply P's music is all over the board. I agree with many things being an untapped market, simply because Prince hasn't tapped them. Howard loves Prince music, if anyone remotely listens to the show they know that. The Stern show wouldn't be what it is if he didn't have gripes about everything. The people that are offended by Howard are often the ones that don't listen and understand where he is coming from. Howard said that Prince sent him two songs that have never been released. He said that he wanted him to play them but Robin said she really should be on the phone if that story is true. Howard said he's not sure about it either but they checked into it and they were told that Prince is a fan of Howard's and he wants him to play these songs. Howard said Gary had a story about them that was kind of weird. Gary came in and said that they sent the songs over and asked Howard to speculate on whether or not Prince would play them live at the Super Bowl. Howard said he thought they were live performances but Gary said he didn't get that when he heard them. Howard had the Prince songs that he was talking about earlier. He and Gary said that the song was a mix of Jimi Hendrix's ''All Along the Watchtower'' and the Foo Fighters ''Best of You.'' Howard started to play the song and figured it wasn't live like he had thought earlier. He said he was getting chills hearing him sing and kind of like the song. Gary said he kind of likes it too. Robin said she doesn't understand why he'd mix those two songs. Howard told her that's because she doesn't understand the genius of Prince. Artie asked Howard if he's ever met Prince. Howard said he was at some show one time and ran into him quickly. Artie said he met him once at The Fashion Cafe one day. He took a friend to the place one day when it was still around and they stuck Prince next to him and his friend in this VIP area. Artie said the guy is tiny, he's only like 5 feet tall. Artie said he told Prince that Raspberry Beret was a great song and he got a ''Thanks'' from him before he was whisked away. I never reliazed how appropriate these lyrics were to Prince's situation 10 years ago....
Makes me wonder why he's singing them now....and why it seems so much better than The Foo's...I wonder if they're excited...anyone belong to a Foo bulliten board...let us know what they say... as to what I said before...excelent lyrics...and I suppose they relate to almost ANYone's position... [Edited 1/29/07 8:52am] YOu just proved why those sites are terrible (the one on Robin emerged and got a little pubclity from the show, with hilarious results including Robin threatening to leave the show). THe people that post on there often don't listen very closely to the show and Robin gets slammed just becasue people don't like her. I do agree with you on the Prince thing, but that's a matter of opinion, kind of. | |
