Nobody watches Superbowl outside the American continent.

funny... i have a friend in scotland who watches it every year.

Believe me, nobody watches it. Nobody even knows the rules of American Football in Europe, Africa or Asia. It's not shown on TV, and whilst there are national leagues they don't attract enough media attention for the newspapers to even write about them.

Superbowl is broadcasted globally, but the number of people watching it is marginal. It comes out in the middle of the night anyway.

yea, i kinda have to agree- outside the U.S.- the Superbowl isn't a big thing. I mean, my parents are foreigners who came to the U.S. and they don't even watch the show (neither do I- except for this year's half time show). I'd say soccer is more of a worldwide sport, maybe basketball (not alot though), and cricket. the World Cup and the Olympics are probably the most viewed sports programs- when you're talking about WORLDWIDE viewing. its hard to find football outside the U.S., reallly.

i'm just talking straight bottomline numbers-- not how many people in the U.K. watched it, how many people in the Czech republic watched it, how many people in the philipines watched it, etc. i am talking about worldwide numbers, not broken down into different countries, and the superbowl wins numbers-wise. i know that american football isn't that big in other countries but if you are talking cold hard digits, the SB has it.

okay, i tried to look it up. here is one of the first things that popped up:

The World Cup is considered the world's most popular sporting event, and is expected to draw viewers from 189 countries. It is estimated that the 64 games during the tournament will attract 50 billion viewers worldwide, with an average of 500 million per match

now tell me how in the hell can ANYTHING have "50 billion viewers"? lol last time i checked there are only 6 billion people on the dang planet itself! razz

sometimes google sucks... anyway, this will most likely be prince's largest audience ever-- which is the point i was originally trying to make. soccer is more popular worldwide than american football, no doubt (even tho i think soccer sucks ass but that's only one yankee's opinion wink )

everytime you watch a game, you are counted as 1 viewer. means that with 6 billion people the can all watch 64 times so that is something like 384 billion potential viewers.

Oh fer christ's sake let P do something a little different (for him atleast)... he's performing with one of best marching bands around. It's not like he went out and recruited some 5th graders with kazoos and cymbals.

I mean really, how many times can you guys hear "Let's Go Crazy" and "Take Me With U" the same way he's been playing it for 20 years.

I'll play it first and tell you what it is later.

He'll either do an old classic everybody knows (that lends itself to horns and lots of drums), or some new stuff, like from 3121. Hopefully, whatever he does will be clever & cool, not corny. But really, who cares? We should focus on how great it is that Prince is nationally recognized again... imagine if this would have happened back in the 80s?

Prince, go crazy, don't play Let's Go Crazy.

Ok, don't go completely nuts and play Sister. But how about SOTT, America, Housequake, Delirious? Play one of these and then I won't mind if you sing Kiss for the 1000th time in 4 years. Do NOT under any circumstance play If I Was Your Girlfriend -- this might amaze you but a lot of guys don't want to be their girlfriend's girlfriend at halftime. Do salute JB though -- but please pass on Pass the peas.

Marching ‘100’ will perform with Prince in Super Bowl half-time show.
http://www.famu.edu/?a=he...ay&news=64

TALLAHASSEE – In two weeks and counting, when the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears tangle in Miami, only entertainment royalty and the Rattlers will be in the middle of them. Prince and the Florida A&M University “Marching 100” will take to the field Feb. 4 in Miami for “The Pepsi Super Bowl XLI Half-time Show featuring Prince.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our band and our university,” said Florida A&M University (FAMU) Interim President Castell Vaughn Bryant. “We are very proud of the invitation to perform with such a talent on this international stage. While we are all familiar with the quality of our performing-arts program, this gives us just one more chance to show the world the type of outstanding musicianship that comes from FAMU.”

The Super Bowl annually ranks as the most-watched TV program of the year, reaching about 140 million U.S. viewers and one billion global viewers in 220 countries, according to the National Football League’s website.

Julian White, director of bands at FAMU, said he and other band officials are working with the Don Mischer Production Company to ensure that the “Marching 100” is ready, once again, for primetime.

The world-famous band already has under its hat three Super Bowl appearances, a Welch’s Grape Drink commercial, the French Bi-Centennial celebration in Paris, France and a live 2006 Grammys Award performance with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx.

And, now, pop music royalty, Prince . . .

“It is quite an honor to be sharing the spotlight with Prince,” White said. “Already, we are putting the routine together and preparing our student performers. Even though we have been to the Super Bowl before, the excitement never wears off.”

According to Julianne Hare, a coordinating producer of the show, the band will perform for approximately eight minutes. She said the production company – and all others -- will not discuss the particulars of what promises to be a sizzling performance with more than 200 members of the FAMU band appearing in the half-time show.
She did have one detail to share: “We are thrilled about FAMU performing in the Super Bowl. We are proud that we have you guys.”

kiss, yes. i would be willing to put a dollar down on that one. i predict kiss, little red corvette, lets go crazy, and of course (goes w/out saying) purple rain. in fact, i bet there are going to be purple balloons and/or confetti released at some point during the performance.
