1. 1999 (In 1983, I was 10 when I bought 1999 with my own money through a mail-order company called Hot Rocks that accepted COD. I was SO intrigued with the dirty language and I really believe that's how I first heard of sex, Let's Pretend We're Married, Automatic, and Lady Cab Driver were DEFINITELY educational.)

2. Controversy (I had a canopy bed and put that poster of Prince in the shower that came with the album over my bed underneath the canopy. It was months before my mom noticed it. Surprisingly, she was cool about it and didn't make me take it down. It stayed there til I graduated from high school in 1991.)

I bought all of these, with my own money, before I was 11. Good thing my mother wasn't monitoring my music listening cuz I ain't been right ever since.

1. Dirty Mind (I had the "Uptown" 45 already. When I heard "Head" on the radio, I had to have the album. It was a few weeks before Christmas and my grandmother and I were Christmas shopping. I saw it in the store and told her I wanted it for Christmas. We got it home, I opened it...she raised hell for me opening it early....I recorded "Head" on a cassette tape and then we wrapped it and put it under the tree and I reopened it Christmas Eve. )

2. Prince (I previously had the "I Wanna Be Your Lover" 45. I bought the "Prince" album about a week or two after I got "Dirty Mind" because I loved every track on the entire album, which is rare for me.)

3. Controversy (I bought it the weekend after it was released.)
