Purple Rain
Sign O The Times
Lovesexy

I dubbed every thing before and between and then bought the CDs when I got good and grown. If we're counting singles, then throw in the Let's Go Crazy/Erotic City 12". My dad broke it when he heard Erotic City. I guess Sheila didn't really say "We can funk until it's dawn"...

1. Dirty Mind (I had the "Uptown" 45 already. When I heard "Head" on the radio, I had to have the album. It was a few weeks before Christmas and my grandmother and I were Christmas shopping. I saw it in the store and told her I wanted it for Christmas. We got it home, I opened it...she raised hell for me opening it early....I recorded "Head" on a cassette tape and then we wrapped it and put it under the tree and I reopened it Christmas Eve. lol )

2. Prince (I previously had the "I Wanna Be Your Lover" 45. I bought the "Prince" album about a week or two after I got "Dirty Mind" because I loved every track on the entire album, which is rare for me.)

3. Controversy (I bought it the weekend after it was released.)

eek What radio station was this?

All three of the black radio stations in my area (Jackson, MS) at the time played "Head".....WJMI, WKXI, and WOKJ. Actually the first time I ever heard the song "Head" was on a local "Soul Train" type television dance show we had called "Black Gold". Prince was all the way live back then!

Very interesting. What was it about NPS that prompted you to make it your first Prince album?

Well I didn't knew anything about him back then, and I wanted a 'recent' album from Prince because I thought his 80s work was all rock, a genre I didn't like at the time. So I saw 1998 at the back of NPS and I kinda liked the cover for some reason boxed so I bought it. And it surely had some good tracks on it: Come On, The One, Untill U're In My Arms Again and When U Love Somebody.

Controversy
For You
1999

all on vinyl, I still have For You , the other two now on CD.

if you'll allow me to reminess it was pretty exciting seeing Prince arrive in a commercial sense. I don't remember him before Controversy but that record sure made an impact on this growing lad.It was something New and I h=guess I felt apart of it in a fanboy sense.

Sentimental mod over. Ta

I can remember the exact order of each album I purchased in my teens - which is sort of scary...

Parade (Cassette) - 14 years old
Purple Rain (Vinyl) - 14 years old
Around The World In A Day (Cassette) - 15 years old
For You / Dirty Mind, bought on the same day (Cassettes) - 15 years old
Controversy (Cassette) - 15 years old
Sign O' The Times (Cassette) - 15 years old
Lovesexy (CD) - 16 years old
'The Black Album', bootleg (CD) - 16 years old
1999 (CD) - 16 years old
Batman (CD) - 17 years old
Graffiti Bridge (CD) - 18 years old
Diamonds And Pearls (CD) - 19 years old

I can't remember when I replaced the cassettes and vinyl with CDs. I also never bought the 'Prince' album until in my twenties. It seemed that as soon as I ended my teenage years, I was over Prince... for a while.
