The wicked one, yes, but 'next to the one' he's referring to the woman and her fury compared to which Hell's fury does not come close.

yeah but i take "next to the one" like "other than the devil" like i might say "next to vanilla i like chocolate the best"

Doesn't make sense. He would be saying "Next to the devil, Hell ain't got no fury". But he has already said in the song "Hell ain't got no fury like a woman scorned". He did not say "Hell ain't got no fury like a woman scorned, apart from the devil that is" which is what your logic would be implying.

he is saying that the devil is the only thing in hell who's fury is worst than that of a woman scorned. "next to the 1 (other than the devil) hell has no fury like a woman scorned"

apart from the devil that is" which is what your logic would be implying.

why do so many people miss-use the word logic?

Metalorange is right,

the "One" in fury refers to the woman (who is the subject of the song).

so next to the woman hell has not furry like a woman scorned?

i do not know if that is right, i still he is saying that the only fury worst than a scorned woman's fury is that of the devil.

Yes, that is right. Or to put it another way, next to her even hell does not possess fury like a woman scorned. Over and over in the song he says 'ain't no fury like a woman scorned' nowhere does he go onto quantify it by saying 'except the devil'. Besides, Prince would be highly unlikely to call the devil 'the 1' since it would imply high status, like 'hey, he's number one in my book'.

I was saying your reasoning was in error, ie your logic was wrong. I thought that was a perfectly valid use.

unless the 1 is the devil... ?

he refers to the Evil and Wicked 1... who is that Martha stewart?

Exactly, when he refers to the devil he feels he has to quantify it with 'evil' or 'wicked'. That's why '1' on it's own does not mean the devil in this case.

You don't think you use reasoning when you interpret? Of course you do, to interpret something you don't understand you have to reason out the problem, ie, use logic.

Geez, I think logic and reasoning are perfectly interchangeable in a casual conversation and comment. That's why we have thesauruses, because there are different words with practically the same meaning. In fact the online thesaurus has this to say:

Main Entry: reasoning
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: logic
Synonyms: acumen, analysis, apriority, argument, case, cogitation, concluding, corollary, deduction, dialectics, exposition, generalization, hypothesis, illation, induction, inference, interpretation, logistics, premise, proof, proposition, ratiocination, rationale, rationalizing, reason, syllogism, syllogization, thinking, thought
