Bout The Arab World? I don't know, he just seems so fascinated by the Arabic culture. Arabic lyrics(Gamillah-Habibi), Arabic music twists, Arabic clothes(The black one when he was sitting on a coach reading a bible and the one in the 'Greatest Romance' video). Hell, he LOOK so Arabic too if I saw him walking with a 'Thowp' on and a red 'Gutrah' I'd sho nuff say he's one of the Royal Arabic Gulf Princes. The Q is how did he knew all that stuff? He must've been there.

And what about Africa?? Ain't no real reasons 4 this Q. I'm just wondering cuz since he built his STRONG fan base then why not Africa??

That "rumour" happens to be true.

Prince oversaw the (expensive) filming of several video clips, some of them unreleased, featuring Carmen Electra and others featuring Mayte. Some snippets of these video-clips with Mayte ended up on the '3 Chains O' Gold' video collection.

Why do Afro-Americans and associated artist never play in Africa? - They can only cry and screem about racissm and so far..., but do they also think about theyr roots there? They forgot theyr families in that countries simply... or am I wrong? (I hope, in that case)
Africans have the mean Afro-Americans are just the sames as 'withe' Americans, for them.
Some Aficans also said to me, they would wish, the Artists would play in Africa. Also Rock stars and Musicians in general... But...
Why is that so? Because of the money? Arrogance? Why? I would like to know the true. Cause that makes me sad.

As a Black Arabic woman, I don't see the difference bitween Africa or The Arab world. Considering that my mother is Somalian native, Moroccoian raised and My father who's full blooded Moroccoian. Both nation share the same culture, the same language(Some of them), same traditions and therefore most of them share the same religion(ISLAM).

It is highly ironic that nobody can as yet achieve "REAL worldwide breakthrough in Africa or in the Arab world", given the high percentage of population in those lands.

The same can certainly be said of Latin America and places in Asia, for example like China - the area with the higest human density population in the world.

Check Bollywood--the Indian "Hollywood" scene--which is the largest film industry in the whole world. Their stars sell millions of records and fill stadiums in Asian countries or other countries where there are a lot of Asian people.

Also check the world music scene, people like Salief Keita, Youssou N'Dour, Miriam Makeba, can fill stadiums in Africa.

I'm sure there are many other examples of artists who make it big in their own cultures. As far as crossover, well that's a different story.

Michael Jackson is probably the most universally celebrated artist. Although most of his "African-American-ness" is on the floor of an operating room. Most of the folks that I have talked to from Africa and Asia tend to go for vintage groups--the Motown sound--so there is a lot of love for the Temptations, etc. Others have included Janet, Whitney, and other major pop acts. Prince maybe at the height of his pop status, but his overt celebration of sexuality and gender bending probably prevented him from the same kind of popularity cuz it threatened some of the cultural assumptions of other societies.

Hip Hop has also a strong appeal among younger folks in Africa... Tupac and Biggie for example are humongous heroes among African youth, and Public Enemy inspired a wave of political rap in the Middle East. The stuff is getting there... slowly but it gets there.
